Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Always begin with the best. Which of the following movies is the only one to appear on the American Film Institute's list of the 100 greatest American movies?

Answer: Bringing Up Baby (1938)

"Bringing Up Baby" was the late, great Katherine Hepburn's only "screwball comedy". Kate played a wacky heiress with a penchant for leopards and, eventually, Cary Grant. It's #98 on AFI's list, but considerably higher on others.
"Baby Face" starred Barbara Stanwyck and a young John Wayne.
"Baby, the Rain Must Fall" starred Steve McQueen and Lee Remick.
"Baby Boom"s most memorable scene features Diane Keaton in a power suit trying to leave her inherited baby in a coat-check room.
2. 1978's "Pretty Baby", the movie that introduced Brooke Shields as a prostitute's daughter, was nominated for at least one Academy Award.

Answer: True

The controversial film, which also starred Susan Sarandon, was directed by Louis Malle. It was nominated for "Best Music, Original Song Score and Its Adaptation or Best Adaptation Score" and did not win.
3. In 1939's "Blondie Brings Up Baby", what was the baby's name?

Answer: Baby Dumpling

From 1938 to 1950 there were no fewer than 28 "Blondie" movies. "Blondie Brings Up Baby" was the fourth. And we can scoff all we want, but how many movies in more recent decades have been popular enough to rate 27 sequels, hmmm?

Blondie's baby was called Baby Dumpling in all of the earlier movie installments, but it was eventually changed to Alexander, thus preventing a 29th movie called "Blondie Pays for her Son's Therapy". Mr. Dithers was Dagwood's boss, and Larry Simms played Baby Dumpling in all the movies, just as Penny Singleton and Arthur Lake played Blondie and Dagwood in all of them...for thirteen years.
4. "A movie about people who do stuff that is not normal." Oh, and it stars Frank Zappa.

Answer: Baby Snakes

1979's "Baby Snakes" is hugely popular with Zappaphiles.
"Sheba, Baby" is from 1975, "Spider Baby" is a Lon Chaney horror film from 1964, and 1987's "Plutonium Baby" appears on several lists of really, really bad movies.
5. Which of the following is an award-winning documentary film from 1996?

Answer: A Healthy Baby Girl

"A Healthy Baby Girl" is about filmmaker Judith Helfand's battle with cervical cancer, caused by the synthetic hormone diethylstilbestrol (DES), which her mother took while pregnant with her.
6. In 1968, Mia Farrow played this woman who moved into a new apartment and had the Devil's baby.

Answer: Rosemary

True fans of the Ira Levin book and Roman Polanski film know that "Rosemary's Baby" was named Andrew John Woodhouse.
7. Which of the following films was directed by John Singleton and featured Snoop Doggy Dogg as Rodney?

Answer: Baby Boy (2001)

"Baby Boy" is about growing up and becoming a man on the mean streets of South Central Los Angeles.
8. What do the movies "Babycakes" and "Cry-Baby" have in common?

Answer: They both star Ricki Lake.

"Babycakes" is from 1989. "Cry-Baby", from 1990, is set in Baltimore. John Waters directed "Cry-Baby", but "Babycakes" (an American remake of a 1985 German film called "Zuckerbaby") was directed by Paul Schneider.
9. "Baby Doll" was a 1956 film about a child bride in the American South. It starred Carroll Baker and Karl Malden, was directed by Elia Kazan, and was condemned by the Legion of Decency. What famous author was this black comedy's screenwriter?

Answer: Tennessee Williams

Mr. Williams adapted two of his one-act plays for the film, which was nominated for five Golden Globe and four Academy Awards.
10. All of these actresses appeared in movies with "Baby" in the title, but which one was in "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?"?

Answer: Joan Crawford

Joan Crawford and Bette Davis portrayed dysfunctional siblings in the 1962 classic. Shirley Temple tap danced in 1934's "Baby, Take a Bow";
model Carol Alt tried to act in 1989's "Bye Bye Baby", and Zsa Zsa was in "Arrivederci, Baby!" in 1966.
