Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Remember these lyrics? "People are strange, when you're a stranger. Faces look ugly, when you're alone. Women seem wicked, when you're unwanted. _______ ___ ______ when you're down."

Answer: streets are uneven

This verse is from the song 'People Are Strange' from The Doors album 'Strange Days' released in 1967. This song is interesting because it explores basic human nature and perception, a topic that The Doors and Jim Morrison were obsessed with. It deals with the feeling of being an 'outsider' of some kind, that being literal or metaphorical.
2. Can you fill in these lyrics? "She's walking down the street, blind to every eye she meets. Do you think you'll be the guy, to make the ______ __ ___ ______ _____?"

Answer: queen of the angels sigh

This is from the song "Hello, I Love You", from the album "Waiting for the Sun". Jim Morrison said he wrote part of this song about an African-American girl who he had dreamed about, three years before the song was recorded. This song reached number one on the charts in the US and Canada.
3. Can you remember these lyrics? "Follow me across the sea, where milky babies seem to be. Molded, flowing revelry ____ ___ ___ ___ ___ ____ ____."

Answer: with the one who set them free

This is the bridge of the song "Tell All the People" from the album "The Soft Parade". This song was written by guitarist Robbie Krieger. Jim Morrison wanted it known that he did not write the song because it portrayed him as some sort of leader. He also didn't agree to the line 'get your guns'.
4. Can you fill in the blank here? "We chased our pleasures here, dug our treasures there. But can you still recall the ____ __ ______? Break on through to the other side."

Answer: time we cried

'Break On Through( To the Other Side)" was The Doors' first ever single. One of the lines in the song is "She gets high". When this song came out, the word 'high' was censored out on radio stations. Although 'high' exists on the original CD, most classic rock stations still play the censored version because it is most familiar to the listeners.
5. Can you fill in these lyrics? "Into this house we're born. Into this world we're thrown. Like a dog without a bone. __ _____ ___ __ ____. Riders on the storm."

Answer: an actor out on loan

'Riders On the Storm" is a song from the album 'L.A. Women'. Its interesting because it includes sound effects of thunder and rain. According to Ray Manzarek, this was the last song that The Doors recorded all together before Jim Morrison's death in 1971.
6. Remember these lyrics? "Well I woke up this morning, I got myself a beer. Well I woke up this morning and got myself a beer. The future's uncertain and ___ ___ __ ______ ____."

Answer: the end is always near

These lyrics are from the song "Roadhouse Blues" on the album 'Morrison Hotel'. This is of course, a blues rock song. After its release in 1970, the song quickly became one of The Doors most popular songs. The group later released a live version of the song, that also became wildly popular.
7. Can you fill in these lyrics? "Now I'm gonna love you till the heavens stop the rain. I'm gonna love you till ___ _____ ____ ____ ___ ___, for you and I."

Answer: the stars fall from the sky

This is from the song "Touch Me" on the album 'The Soft Parade'. The song is known for its use of string and brass instruments that exist throughout the song. The last line of the song is "stronger than dirt". This is an allusion to an Ajax Cleanser advertisement because that was Ajax's slogan. Morrison apparently says it at the end of the song because the last four notes in the song are the same tune as the chant used in the ad.
8. Remember these? "Love me two times baby, love me twice today. Love me two times girl, __ ____ ____."

Answer: I'm goin' away

"Love Me Two Times" is from the album 'Strange Days'. Robbie Krieger wrote the lyrics to this song about a soldier spending the last day with his love before overseas. This song reached 25 on the US charts.
9. Can you remember these? "This is the end, beautiful friend. This is the end, ___ ____ ______, the end."

Answer: my only friend

This is from the song "The End", from The Doors' first album. "The End" was ranked 336 on Rolling Stone's 'The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time'. The original version of this song is over 11 minutes long. The Doors would play this song in live concerts to close their last set.
10. Can you fill in this blank? "You know that it would be untrue, you know that I would be a liar, if I was to say to you, girl we couldn't get much higher. Come on baby _____ __ ____."

Answer: light my fire

'Light My fire" is probably the most popular song by The Doors. The Doors were invited to sing this hit on the "Ed Sullivan Show" on September 7th, 1967, and they were told not to sing the lyric 'girl we couldn't get much higher' because drug references were unacceptable. But being a rebel at heart, Morrison sang the original lyric anyway. They never got invited back.
