Question 1 of 10
1. "Sipping on Rosé
Silverlake sun coming up all lazy
(This is how we do).."

Silverlake sun, really Katy? I really hope someone tells Katy that the Sun does not belong only to Silver Lake and that when the Sun 'comes up all lazy' in Silver Lake, it 'comes up all lazy' everywhere, at least in her part of the world. Could you also point out to her what the color of the sun really is from the following choices?
Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. "Slow cooking pancakes for my boy
Still up, still fresh as a daisy
Playing ping pong all night long..."

Great, after playing ping-pong all night long Katy says she is fresh as a daisy. There is a reason for a daisy being so fresh when the 'Silverlake sun comes up all lazy' and that's because it sleeps at night. And it sleeps well. There is actually a term for this 'sleeping' demonstrated by a daisy. Can you point it out to Katy?

Question 3 of 10
3. "Everything's all neon and hazy.."

Katy has a real way with words, doesn't she? Now she sees everything like it's lit up bright like a neon sign and at the same time things are apparently hazy. Either she is hallucinating or she is experiencing what is called brain fog, which is essentially confusion with feeling lightheaded and dizzy. Considering that they were up all night drinking and partying, surely no one would have bothered to eat anything. Which of the following could be a cause of Katy's brain fog?
Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. "Chanel this, Chanel that
..all my girls vintage Chanel, baby.."

Katy talks about Chanel like she was her best friend. I am guessing she knows nothing about the woman Coco Chanel as a person. I am almost certain she doesn't know that Chanel's mom died of a lung disease. Maybe Katy can pick up a lung disease, caused by what's in the photo, from the following line up. Can you spot the lung disease from the following?
Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. "This is how we do, yeah
Chillin', laid-back, straight stuntin'
Yeah, we do it like that
This is how we do..."

Imagine Katy Perry driving around town in her expensive car and flashing her jewelry and achievements to every passerby. This is apparently what 'straight stuntin' means. So vain, isn't it? I know another group of people who deserve to really be 'straight stuntin' around town for the work they do. And they are Formula 1 drivers. These guys not only put their lives on the line when they step into their office but also lose weight during a race. I don't know or care if Katy knows the reason but can you pick out the reason for this from the following?
Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. "Big hoops and maroon lips
My clique hopping in my Maserati.."

Maroon lips? For sure she's talking about maroon lipstick, right? But wait, drunk as they all are, what if the 'maroon' on the lips was actually redness and swelling. Which of the following diseases would cause the lips to exhibit swelling and redness during an outbreak?
Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. "Santa Barbara-chic at La Super Rica
Grabbing tacos, checking out hotties..."

This makes some sense, doesn't it? And finally Katy decides to get something to eat and tacos from the La Super Rica sounds delicious. Obviously Katy must know that the tortillas used in those scrumptious tacos can be made from corn or maize. Do you think she knows the very simple scientific name of maize? It is simple indeed. Can you point it out to her?

Question 8 of 10
8. "Now we talkin' astrology
Getting our nails did all Japanese-y.."

If they were really talking astrology, surely Katy being a Scorpion would have come up. When I say Scorpion, I mean a person with their Zodiac sign as Scorpio like Katy as she was born on 25th October. But to tell you the truth, the animal scorpion - the real scorpion - is more interesting. So let's learn about that.

Scorpion's venom is said to contain a number of dangerous components. Which of the following is the most important and dangerous content of a scorpion's venom?
Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. "Yo, this goes out to all you kids
That still have their cars at the club valet
And it's Tuesday..."

Beautiful! Now she's telling 'kids' that it's okay to drink your heart out at a club so much so that they forget what day it is. Doesn't she know what drinking that much, on a regular basis, could do to a person? Look at the poor hepatocytes in picture. They are begging you to tell her that drinking excessively could badly damage a certain organ and cause which of the following conditions?
Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. "This goes out to all you people
Going to bed with a 10
And waking up with a 2.."

Good gracious! Assuming 'waking up with a 2' is a bad thing, why would you go to bed 'with a 2' thinking he/she is 'a 10' unless you are hallucinating? Maybe there was more than just alcohol involved. Please tell Katy to advise the 'kids' to say no to drugs and this hallucinogen in particular. Which of the following drugs is a hallucinogen?

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Sipping on Rosé Silverlake sun coming up all lazy (This is how we do).." Silverlake sun, really Katy? I really hope someone tells Katy that the Sun does not belong only to Silver Lake and that when the Sun 'comes up all lazy' in Silver Lake, it 'comes up all lazy' everywhere, at least in her part of the world. Could you also point out to her what the color of the sun really is from the following choices?

Answer: White

Looking directly into the Sun could damage the eyes but, really, the Sun is white. If you are out in space and look at the Sun, you will clearly see that is white. All the colors, like red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet are mixed into the appearance of the Sun making it white.

The reason it looks yellow, orange or red is because of the optical phenomena that take place in the atmosphere - the same reason our sky looks blue. The characteristic yellowish or red color of the Sun when it is rising or setting is because of the dispersal of colors of short wavelengths like blue, leaving colors like red, yellow and orange that have longer wavelengths to hit our retinas.
2. "Slow cooking pancakes for my boy Still up, still fresh as a daisy Playing ping pong all night long..." Great, after playing ping-pong all night long Katy says she is fresh as a daisy. There is a reason for a daisy being so fresh when the 'Silverlake sun comes up all lazy' and that's because it sleeps at night. And it sleeps well. There is actually a term for this 'sleeping' demonstrated by a daisy. Can you point it out to Katy?

Answer: Nyctinasty

Nyctinasty is a phenomenon that occurs in plants in which they show a response to the absence of light. Flowers like daisies close their petals when darkness falls giving the impression that they are sleeping. The name of the flower daisy itself is said to imply 'day's eye', meaning the flower opens up when there is light.

Other flowers that exhibit this phenomenon are tulips and hibiscus. There are structures called pulvini that act as a hinge and aid in the closing of flowers at dawn. Interestingly, there are also flowers, like the Mirabilis jalapa, that are known to open only around late afternoon or evenings.
3. "Everything's all neon and hazy.." Katy has a real way with words, doesn't she? Now she sees everything like it's lit up bright like a neon sign and at the same time things are apparently hazy. Either she is hallucinating or she is experiencing what is called brain fog, which is essentially confusion with feeling lightheaded and dizzy. Considering that they were up all night drinking and partying, surely no one would have bothered to eat anything. Which of the following could be a cause of Katy's brain fog?

Answer: Hypoglycemia

Hypoglycemia occurs when your blood sugars drop to less than 70 mg/dl. Some of the symptoms of hypoglycemia include confusion, nervousness, confusion, thirst, hunger, palpitations, sweating, hypothermia (reduced body temperature) and it can lead to coma and death unless the person is given something to eat or some sugar/glucose. One of the main causes of hypoglycemia is the usage of insulin. Diabetics on insulin have a high risk of becoming hypoglycemic.

It is important to always have a good breakfast to avoid hypoglycemia during the day. People who drink a lot usually develop hypoglycemia as they very often forget to eat while they are partying.

Other causes of hypoglycemia are hypothyroidism, liver failure and starvation.
4. "Chanel this, Chanel that ..all my girls vintage Chanel, baby.." Katy talks about Chanel like she was her best friend.

Answer: Pulmonary tuberculosis

There are three different diagnoses that Chanel's mother Jeanne, is said to have died from - tuberculosis, bronchitis and asthma. Coco was born Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel to an unmarried woman named Jeanne. Her father was Albert Chanel. After her mother died when she was 12, Coco was sent to a convent.

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the bacteria, Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is a relatively less common disease in the West but is common in underdeveloped and developing countries. It has a particularly high prevalence rate in India in the early twenty-first century. The most common organ affected by tuberculosis is the lungs but other parts of the body, like bones, peritoneum, skin and lymph nodes, can be affected. Major symptoms of pulmonary tuberculosis include cough with bloody expectoration, weight loss and fever. The disease can be diagnosed by testing the sputum for bacteria after staining it with a special stain called Ziehl-Nielsen stain. Tuberculosis is a completely curable disease and all the bacilli (bacteria) can be eliminated from the body by the use of suitable drugs.
5. "This is how we do, yeah Chillin', laid-back, straight stuntin' Yeah, we do it like that This is how we do..." Imagine Katy Perry driving around town in her expensive car and flashing her jewelry and achievements to every passerby.

Answer: Dehydration

Formula 1 drivers have such dangerous jobs. Firstly, every race they participate in has them risking their lives by driving at speeds upwards of 300 kilometers an hour. There are other dangerous health effects of driving in a Formula 1 car. Drivers lose almost 3-4 kilograms of their weight during a race, which is really dangerous if they don't take care of themselves.

This is usually due to the heat generated inside the cockpit of the car at such speeds and with all the protective gear they wear.

They do gain the weight back after the race but they have to be careful to drink lots of water and stay healthy in order to avoid complications. But with more understanding of the body and cars, these types of hazards have been considerably reduced in recent times. Dehydration can cause lack of concentration, confusion, dryness of mouth and eyes if it is short term but long term effects can be loss of skin elasticity, electrolyte imbalance, renal damage and seizures.
6. "Big hoops and maroon lips My clique hopping in my Maserati.." Maroon lips? For sure she's talking about maroon lipstick, right? But wait, drunk as they all are, what if the 'maroon' on the lips was actually redness and swelling. Which of the following diseases would cause the lips to exhibit swelling and redness during an outbreak?

Answer: Herpes

A cold sore is a common manifestation of an outbreak of herpes. It is a blister like lesion that occurs usually on or around the lip, that may rupture and leak virus rich material. Before a cold sore appears, there may be a tingling sensation of the lip, along with redness and swelling.

Herpes is an infectious disease that is caused by the herpes simplex virus. There are two types of herpes viruses - herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV 1) and HSV 2. A person can contract two types of herpes - oral and genital herpes. Oral herpes presents with cold sores and sometimes, a sore throat. Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease and usually presents with formation of vesicles in the genital area. Once a person contracts the virus, he or she remains infectious for life and using antivirals like famciclovir only reduce the outbreaks.

A person is most infectious during an outbreak of herpes.
7. "Santa Barbara-chic at La Super Rica Grabbing tacos, checking out hotties..." This makes some sense, doesn't it? And finally Katy decides to get something to eat and tacos from the La Super Rica sounds delicious. Obviously Katy must know that the tortillas used in those scrumptious tacos can be made from corn or maize. Do you think she knows the very simple scientific name of maize? It is simple indeed. Can you point it out to her?

Answer: Zea mays

Cocos nucifera is coconut, Solanum melongena is eggplant and Malus domestica is apple.

Tacos are a delicacy in Spanish and Mexican cuisine. Tortillas are the bread like part of the taco in which fillings and sauces are placed. Corn tortillas are made from maize and wheat tortillas are also commonly used. Vegetables like onions, corn, tomatoes, bell peppers and beans are common used in taco fillings along with meat like beef, pork and lamb. Salsa and guacamole are sometimes preferred as dips along with a taco.

Zea mays is a angiosperm belonging to the Poaceae family. Other members of this family are sugarcane and rice. A wide variety of food items can be made from the members of this family. Corn especially is used in a lot of cuisines. Popcorn is made from the kernels of certain varieties of corn. It is a good source of carbohydrates, vitamin B and thiamin. Starch from the maize plant is also used in making plastics. The part of the maize plant that people eat is called the ear. Roasting it with some salt and pepper and lemon is absolutely delicious. Some common diseases that affect corn crops are corn smut, grey leaf spot, Southern corn leaf blight and stalk rot.
8. "Now we talkin' astrology Getting our nails did all Japanese-y.." If they were really talking astrology, surely Katy being a Scorpion would have come up. When I say Scorpion, I mean a person with their Zodiac sign as Scorpio like Katy as she was born on 25th October. Which of the following is the most important and dangerous content of a scorpion's venom?

Answer: Neurotoxin

Along with neurotoxins, there are cardiotoxins, nephrotoxins, hemolytic toxin, phosphodiesterases, phospholipases, hyaluronidases, glycosaminoglycans, histamine, serotonin, tryptophan, and cytokine releasers. A scorpion sting is a medical emergency and the patient needs to be taken to the emergency rooom immediately. Neurotoxins are substances that have a predilection for the nervous system and act against it.

These neurotoxins have effects on nerve, muscles and cardiac functions via the nervous system.

The potency of the scorpion venom depends on many factors like the species of scorpion, number of stings, age of the scorpion, area of sting, etc. Some common symptoms of scorpion sting are hyperthermia, hypertension, tachycardia, local inflammation of skin, rotary eye movements and muscle jerking. Treatment of a sting includes administration of species specific antidote to the venom, antihypertensives if hypertension is present and analgesics for pain.

Answer: Liver cirrhosis

Liver cirrhosis is a disease that progresses gradually, over weeks or years. In cirrhosis of liver, the hepatocytes, or the functional cells of the liver, are structurally modified and become abnormal, thus making them unable to carry out their normal functions.

The main causes of cirrhosis of liver are alcoholic liver disease, hepatitis C, Wilson's disease, hemochromatosis and hepatitis B. This condition usually presents with no physical manifestations but some of the symptoms that can point to a suspicion of cirrhosis include enlargement of the liver (hepatomegaly), ascites (fluid collection in the peritoneum), abdominal pain and abdominal distension.

There can be changes in the mental status of the person, if the disease progresses leading to hepatic encephalopathy. Liver transplantation is an option for treatment. Use of diuretics or drugs that reduce fluid volume in the body is recommended to reduce the fluid collection in the abdomen.
10. "This goes out to all you people Going to bed with a 10 And waking up with a 2.." Good gracious!

Answer: Lysergic acid diethylamide

Hallucinogens are drugs that cause changes in the perception of a person and cause them to see, hear or feel things that aren't really happening, i.e., a hallucination. Drugs like lysergic acid diethylamide, psilocybin (mushrooms) and ketamine are included in hallucinogens. Most hallucinogenic drugs have different mechanisms of actions and can have varied effects on people. LSD is also called entactogen. Some of the effects of LSD use are tachycardia, sweating, hyperactive reflexes, insomnia, loss of appetite and tremors. LSD can cause a person to be over aggressive, paranoid and depressed. An overdose of LSD can have potentially dangerous adverse effects like respiratory arrest, hyperthermia, seizures, arrhythmias and intracranial hemorrhages. Drugs like benzodiazepine (diazepam) can be given to patients who are agitated after taking LSD to excess.

Cannabis is a depressor and does not cause hallucinations. Amphetamines are stimulators and also do not usually cause a person to hallucinate. Both cannabis and amphetamines have other psychotropic effects.
