These three names are different ways to indicate a teacher in Italian. "Maestro" is only for elementary school, while "professore" is for middle and high school. "Insegnante" may be used for all kinds of teachers.
2. Which of the following is NOT one of the varieties of Italian high schools called "Licei"?

Answer: magnifico

The four main types used to be as follows:

classico - teaching Classical Greek and Latin as well as the usual subjects;

scientifico - more emphasis on science;

artistico - originally a four-year program leading directly to a fine arts academy (accademia delle belle arti) or to a school of architecture.

magistrale - originally designed to train elementary-school teachers.

Other newer types of liceo include "linguistico" (emphasising languages) and
"Europeo".
3. How many years does elementary school last in Italy?

Answer: 5

Children attend elementary school from the age of six to the age of ten.
4. What is the principal called in Italian?

Answer: preside

"Principale" means boss in your working palce, "caposcuola" is a student particularly responsible who can help teachers and pupils to get on well together and "comandante" is the chief of a military organisation (this might as well apply to school ahah).

In Italy summer is fairly hot, so schools are closed in the hotter months.

Answer: scuola materna

The literal translation of "scuola materna" is "motherly school". It is so called because children are very young when they go there, and therefore need a familiar atmosphere to feel at ease.
7. When do lessons start in most high schools?

Answer: 8:00

In Italian high schools very few courses have afternoons at school, so lessons start pretty early and finish before lunch.

Obviously you don't need to get the highest marks, but you are required to have a diploma to attend university.

In Italy the behaviour mark is called "voto in condotta". It used to be the case that if pupils got 7 or less they had to repeat the year, but that didn't happen so often. Since the school reform bill, the "voto di condotta" pass mark was set at the same minimum standard as the other subjects i.e. 6.
10. What of these words is NOT used to name the exam at the end of high school?

Answer: esame della patente

"Esame della patente" means driving licence exam, the other three names are different ways to call the exam you take at the end of your five years of high school.
