Answer: Prague

During the reign of Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor and king of Bohemia, Prague prospered and became the third largest city in Europe. Charles instructed the building of the "New Town" and the impressive bridge across the river was named after him. Prague is a major tourist destination and some of the attractions are the Powder Tower, Astronomical Clock and Lennon Wall.

In 1908, it was decided to build a national capital in rural New South Wales after a long dispute over whether Melbourne or Sydney should be the national capital. Canberra is the largest inland city and the eighth largest city in Australia.

Amsterdam's name derives from the building of a dam on the river Amstel in the vicinity. It grew into one the major ports of the world in the 17th century during the golden age of Dutch history. It is still one of Europe's major cities and is renowned for its diamond cutting industry.

Cape Town and its surrounding area have some of the most varied and spectacular tourist sites I've seen. As well as the famous Table Mountain, there is Robben Island (where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned), the Cape Of Good Hope, Chapman's Peak Drive, fabulous beaches and lots of wildlife and safari parks.
Pretoria is the executive capital and Bloemfontein is the judicial capital of South Africa.

Norway is renowned for its spectacular fjords and Oslo's city centre lies at the end of Oslofjord. Norway's most famous author, Henrik Ibsen, is commemorated with 69 quotations in stainless steel set in the granite sidewalks of the city's streets.

Beijing is home to seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites including, the Forbidden City, Summer Palace and Great Wall. The Olympic Games and Paralympic Games were a huge success with China winning 51 gold medals at the main event. The fantastic stadium known as the "Bird's Nest" was the main venue for the games.

I spent three days in Budapest and saw only a fraction of what the city has to offer. The architecture is spectacular with an imposing parliament building on the banks of the Danube. The area was originally settled by the Celts with the Hungarians arriving in the 9th century. Other tourist attractions include Buda Castle, Heroes' Square, Fishermen's Bastion and the Chain Bridge.

Music, art and culture have long traditions in Vienna. Schubert and both Johann Strauss Senior and Junior were born in the city. Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Mahler and Brahms have all worked there. I attended a wonderful concert of Mozart and Strauss music at the Winter Palace during my stay.
