Although she was born in the US, Alfonso's grandparents were born in Sicily and Calabria, giving her Italian heritage. She graduated from high school in Brockton in 1982. It is also in Brockton where Alfonso trained to be a prodigy skater, as she eventually won a gold medal at the Junior Olympics for skating. Unfortunately for her, she suffered a serious leg injury amidst a tobogganing accident, forcing her to give up professional skating.

In this movie, Alfonso plays the part of Kelly Blake. The main character spends a lot of time mishandling women romantically, with Alfonso's character being one of them, before later meeting his match. The movie released in 1981, and unfortunately did not get very good reviews. Nonetheless, this is where Alfonso's career began.

Conveniently for the show, fellow actor Peter Reckell also departed, which made writing their characters out of the story pretty easy: Bo (Peter Reckell) and Hope Williams were written out as sailing on a boat around the world, departing from their hometown in Salem to do so.

Alfonso would return to the show in 1994. Reckell, however, had made his return much sooner, which had prompted the producers to kill Alfonso's old character, Hope Williams, off.

The main character, Detective Peter Burke, later uncovers it to be the work of a culprit who particularly dislikes shysters, or lawyers who do their duties in a shady, unethical manner. Susan Bell is a side character in this episode.

According to the company's website, "For years Kristian had received letters, emails and calls to NBC asking about the jewelry that she was wearing that particular day." In addition, massive inspiration garnered from the Fleur de Lis is listed as a driving contributor to the line's initial creation. Alfonso ended up selling the line to William Jobbins in 2016, who would go on to lead the line into prosperity and long term success.

In 1999, Alfonso was nominated for and received the Soap Opera Digest Award for Hottest Female Star. While she was nominated for Hottest Actress (1996), Favorite Actress (2000) and Most Irresistible Combination (with Peter Reckell 2005), she did not quite win any of these awards.
