Brotherhood of Man was a British pop group established in 1969. The band initially began with session singers. In 1972, record producer Tony Hiller brought together four vocalists who would represent the Brotherhood of Man for many years. The members of the band included Martin Lee, Lee Sheriden, Nicky Stevens, and Sandra Stevens. This lineup of the group achieved numerous hits globally during the mid- to late 1970s, such as "Kiss Me Kiss Your Baby", "Save Your Kisses for Me", "Angelo", "Oh Boy (The Mood I'm In)", and "Figaro".
The Brotherhood of Man secured the United Kingdom's victory in the Eurovision Song Contest of 1976. They achieved a total of 164 points with their song "Save Your Kisses For Me". The song became a number one hit for the band on the UK Single Chart and also became a global success. Not only was the song a hit, but it also emerged as the top hit of 1976, with sales exceeding one million copies. Globally, it has sold over six million copies, establishing it as the UK's highest-selling Eurovision entry in history.
After their triumph at Eurovision, Brotherhood of Man proceeded to launch an album and produced multiple number one singles in the UK. The group was also honoured by an invitation to perform at the 1977 Royal Variety Performance.
When Lee left to study music in the early 1980s, the Brotherhood of Man split for a few years. In 1985, though, the band reunited for a TV show and stayed together for decades, with Lee acting as manager. In August of the same year, Sandra Stevens and Lee Martin tied the knot. Regretfully, Lee died on September 29, 2024, at the age of 77, from heart failure following a brief illness.
