Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Immature Borg Drone, rescued by USS Voyager

Answer: Icheb

Icheb was a former Borg drone, species Brunali (species 2461 to the Borg). He was found aboard a disabled Borg cube along with other Borg children. Typically, assimilated humanoids that are still children were placed in a maturation chamber until they are physically mature. But for some reason, all the adult drones were dead and the "neonatal" drones were released from their chambers. The more decisive drone of the group, First, held several Voyager crew hostage until Janeway surrendered Voyager's deflector dish. She didn't comply, and in the ensuing struggle, First died. The other drones (including a baby drone rescued earlier) were beamed to Voyager, where their former identities were discovered and revealed to them. The eldest was Icheb, who had been Second under First. ("Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Collective")

Voyager eventually found the original species of the children, and returns them. Icheb was delivered back to his parents - Leucan and Yifay - on their homeworld. They have no warp-capable spacecraft, and live an agrarian lifestyle. However, his memory of them was sketchy, and he's not sure if he wanted to stay with them or continue with Voyager back to the Alpha Quadrant. But after socializing with other Brunali teens, he decided to stay.

Later in his first night after Voyager leaves, Icheb's parents attacked him and sedate him. It turns out Icheb wasn't just their son; he was a weapon. In his genetic code was a Borg virus, which would infect any Borg vessel that assimilated him. This was what disabled the cube Icheb and the others were found on. He had originally been placed in a space ship that emitted a false warp signature that attracted the Borg. He was assimilated, and the virus was spread to the cube. Only being in the maturation chambers was what protected the neonatals from dying like the adult drone had. With Icheb back, they had another chance to plant him in the path of another Borg vessel. So they did.

On Voyager, Mezoti, the young girl drone they rescued, revealed contradictory information about Icheb's first assimilation that differed from what his parents had said. With this contradiction, Voyager returned to Brunali and rescued Icheb. He then stayed with Voyager for the final years of their journey back to the Alpha Quadrant. ("Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Child's Play")

In an alternate reality, when Voyager was split into multiple time periods, Chakotay and Janeway were able to pass between time zones. The Astrometrics Lab was in a zone that was 17 years in the future. There they found Icheb and Naomi Wildman, both now adults and Starfleet officers. ("Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Shattered")

Once back in the Alpha Quadrant, Icheb attended Starfleet Academy. By 2386, he had become a lieutenant and served aboard the USS Coleman as a science officer.

He fell victim to a group that traded in Borg technology. He was captured and his remaining Borg implants were forcibly removed from his body (without anesthesia). Seven of Nine, serving with the Fenris Rangers, found Icheb as he lay mortally wounded after his parts were harvested. He pleaded with Seven to end his life. She held him in a final embrace, then shot him point-blank with her phaser, saying, "I'm so sorry... my child." ("Star Trek: Picard" episode "Stardust City Rag")

Icheb was primarily portrayed by Manu Intiraymi in all "Star Trek: Voyager" episodes in which Icheb appeared. Mark Bennington portrayed future Icheb in "Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Shattered". Casey King portrayed the mortally wounded Icheb in "Star Trek: Picard" episode "Stardust City Rag".
2. Dax host in the 32nd century

Answer: Illa

Professor Illa Dax was a Cardassian-Trill hybrid, who taught the Confronting the Unexplainable advanced seminar at Starfleet Academy in the 32nd century. It's unknown how many hosts there were between Ezri and Illa, only that it's been eight centuries between the two hosts. Illa also held her hands behind her, like Lela, Jadzia, and Ezri did. ("Star Trek: Starfleet Academy" episode "Series Acclimation Mil")

Illa Dax was portrayed by Tawny Newsome. Newsome is best known as the voice/portrayer of Ensign/Lieutenant j.g. Beckett Mariner in "Star Trek: Lower Decks" and "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" episode "Those Old Scientists".
3. Quark and Rom's mother

Answer: Ishka

Ishka was mother to Quark and Rom and grandmother to Nog. While she was married to Keldar, she offered to help him with his business matters, since he didn't have a good mind for it. But he held the then-bigoted view that females were not to be entrusted to matters of commerce, and did not accept her help. Nonetheless, she tutored their sons in memorizing the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition.

After Keldar died, she conducted business transactions in secret, since it was illegal for females to acquire profit. This continued until the Ferengi Commerce Authority (FCA) discovered her activities. To make restitution (to avoid indentured servitude), she made a full confession and returned her profits to the FCA. However, the FCA did not know that she only returned a third of her earnings. ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode "Family Business")

She eventually caught the eye of Grand Nagus Zek, becoming a financial and romantic partner to him. Liquidator Brunt discovered their relationship and tried to have him deposed. Brunt was unsuccessful in this. ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode Ferengi Love Songs")

Ishka was originally portrayed by Andrea Martin of "Second City Television". She didn't return to the role when offered, because she found the prosthetics used for the Ferengi costume were too uncomfortable.

Cecily Adams portrayed Ishka for the subsequent four appearances of Ishka. She was actually 6 and 9 years younger than the actors who played her sons. Adams passed away in 2004 at the age of 46 from lung cancer.
4. Counselor Deanna Troi's son by a passing energy being

Answer: Ian

Ian Andrew Troi was a life-force entity that appeared as a point of light) that was curious about existence as a mortal being. He entered Deanna Troi's body and caused her to become pregnant, with him inhabiting the baby. He grew in only a day and a half, and Deanna delivered him without any labor pains. She named him after her father.

Ian continued to grow at an accelerated rate, becoming the size of an 8-year-old in only a day after birth. He enjoyed experiencing tactile senses, even when he accidentally burned his fingers.

It was soon discovered that he emitted Eichner radiation, which caused a containment unit with samples of a plague virus to fail. This would endanger everyone on the USS Enterprise. Upon learning this, Ian chose to die, experiencing another mortal condition. He then returned to his natural form and left the Enterprise. ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "The Child")

Ian Troi was portrayed by three young actors: Josh Bell (infant), Zachary Benjamin (toddler), and R.J. Williams (8-year-old Ian).
5. Deltan officer on USS Enterprise (NCC-1701 after refit)

Answer: Ilia

Ilia was a Deltan Starfleet officer in the operations division. She was assigned to the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) after its refit. Complicating her assignment was that the new captain, Will Decker, was a former romantic interest of hers on her home planet Delta IV. She did, however, swear an oath of celibacy, since Deltans are very sexually attractive.

Ilia was absorbed by the V'ger probe in its attempts at communication. It later recreated a probe that looked exactly like Ilia to interact with the crew of the Enterprise.

When V'ger's true nature as the evolved Voyager VI probe was discovered, it was insisting that it be joined with its Creator. It didn't accept that "carbon units" were its creator, and it burns out the receiver circuits of its radio so that the Creator would have to deliver a code in person. Decker went up to the Voyager probe and hand-repaired the burned-out circuits. A bright light then surrounded him, and the Ilia-probe walked up to him. The light surrounded them both, and they disappear, along with V'ger. They joined and evolved into a higher life form. ("Star Trek: The Motion Picture")

Ilia and Ilia-probe were portrayed by Persis Khambatta. Besides acting, Khambatta was a fashion model and was named Miss India in 1965. She then participated in that year's Miss Universe pageant.
6. Spock's pet sehlat

Answer: I-Chaya

I-Chaya was a pet sehlat owned by Sarek, and then by his son Spock. Spock's mother, Amanda, described I-Chaya as a fat teddy bear, which amused Dr. McCoy. Spock then added, "On Vulcan, the teddy bears are alive, and they have six-inch fangs." ("Star Trek" episode "Journey to Babel")

Through some unintended interference with the timeline using the Guardian of Forever, Spock was once erased from existence, or at least from the memories of those who weren't on a time mission with him, Kirk, and historian Lieutenant Erickson to Orion's past. They found that originally in history, Spock's distant cousin Selek had saved him during a kahs-wan maturity test when he was seven. Thinking back, he realizes that Selek was actually himself returning to aid his younger self. But while he was back on his mission to Orion, others had simply asked the Guardian of Forever to replay Vulcan history. Since Spock was not present to return to help his younger self, young Spock had died. So Spock went back to pose as Selek and save himself.

What he'd forgotten was that it wasn't the scheduled kahs-wan where he'd needed aid, but that he had set out beforehand to test himself. He hurried out to the wilderness where young Spock had gone. Young Spock had been followed by I-chaya, who wouldn't leave young Spock. They are eventually attacked by a le-matya, a beast with venomous fangs. I-chaya defended young Spock, but it was wounded. Adult Spock arrives and nerve-pinches the beast. I-chaya lay down in pain from the venom. Young Spock runs back out of the wilderness to find a healer to come tend to I-chaya. But by the time he and the healer arrived back, I-chaya was beyond saving. The healer said he could prolong I-chaya's life, but he would be in constant pain. Or, he could release him from his suffering. Young Spock chose the most logical way, and had the healer euthanize I-chaya. ("Star Trek: The Animated Series" episode "Yesteryear")

No credits were given for whoever provided the vocalizations of I-chaya.
7. Terrellian pilot in Antarian Trans-stellar Rally

Answer: Irina

Irina was a Terrellian pilot in the Delta Quadrant who was involved in the Antarian Transstellar Rally, an impulse-drive-only race that was held as the first peaceful cooperative activity between four formerly warring factions. She became friendly with Tom Paris and Harry Kim when the Delta Flyer rescued her ship after an impromptu drag race. During the race, her co-pilot Joxom was electrocuted, and Ensign Kim became her new co-pilot. The two then begin to develop a relationship. ("Star Trek: Voyager" episode "Drive")

Irina was portrayed by Cyia Batten. Batten had portrayed three characters in three different "Star Trek" productions: Irina in "Star Trek: Voyager"; Navaar, a Orion "slave" in "Star Trek: Enterprise" episode "Bound"; and Tora Ziyal, Gul Dukat's love-child with a Bajoran in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episodes "Indiscretion", and "Return to Grace".
8. Federation president in the 24th century

Answer: Jaresh-Inyo

Jaresh-Inyo was a Grazerite politician who served as the President of the United Federation of Planets in 2372. Prior to his election, he represented his people on the Federation Council. ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episodes "Homefront" and "Paradise Lost")

Jaresh-Inyo was portrayed by Herschel Sparber.
9. Obsidian Order spy surgically altered to look Bajoran

Answer: Iliana Ghemor

Iliana Ghemor was a Cardassian of the Cardassian Union and an agent of the Obsidian Order in the 24th century. Her father was former Legate Tekeny Ghemor and her mother was an inquisitor at the Central University. She was assigned an undercover mission on Bajor, for which she was surgically altered to appear as a Bajoran, as well as mentally conditioned to believe that she actually was Bajoran. Before her transformation, she recorded a message to her future self as a means to undo the mental conditioning and recall her Cardassian identity.

Years later, Kira Nerys was abducted by the Cardassians and surgically altered to resemble Iliana Ghemor. She was then used to try to expose Iliana's father's dissident sympathies. But Tekeny was not fooled, and believed that his daughter was still undercover on Bajor. ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode "Second Skin")

Both Iliana (in her recorded message) and Kira-as-Iliana were portrayed by "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" cast member Nana Visitor.
10. Tasha Yar's sister

Answer: Ishara

Ishara was the younger sister of Natasha "Tasha" Yar. They both grew up on the failed colony on Turkana IV. Ishara joined the Coalition, an organized gang that had been given police powers by the colony's government. Tasha found a means to leave the colony at age 15 and invited Ishara to join her. Ishara declined, feeling that the Coalition was her family now. Tasha left, and Ishara considered her a coward for not staying.

Decades later, the USS Enterprise-D went to Turkana IV to rescue crew members of the Arcos after their ship had a warp core breach. The crew had been captured by the Alliance, a rival gang to the Coalition. Ishara volunteered to help the Enterprise crew in rescuing the Arcos's crew. However, she had ulterior motives, planning to get into the Alliance's stronghold and sabotage their defences. ("Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Legacy")

Ishara Yar was portrayed by Beth Toussaint.
