Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Chapter Twelve: 'The Western Air Temple' Zuko is able to convince the others to let him join, but only after he helps them defeat who of these?

Answer: The assassin

Aang and a handful of his invasion forces make their retreat to the Western Air Temple in shame, having failed in their attempt to defeat the Fire Nation's army and Fire Lord Ozai. Zuko, who's arrived ahead of them, makes his way inside first and recalls his past vow to locate the Avatar. It's why it comes as a surprise to all when Zuko offers himself up to their side, volunteering to become Aang's firebending teacher.

The group refuses Zuko's offer, knowing his past treachery, but when Zuko's former assassin arrives to do away with Aang, Zuko finds the opportunity to prove himself. It's with Zuko's intervention that Sokka is able to strike a critical blow to the assassin, causing him to blow himself up. Nonetheless it's enough to convince the others that he could be on their side; Aang realizes that Zuko knows how easy it is to hurt the people he loves. They allow him to come along, but Katara assures him that if he does one thing out of line, she'll kill him.
2. Chapter Thirteen: 'The Firebending Masters' Aang and Zuko discover that the original masters of firebending are still alive. Which of these are able to teach both of them?

Answer: Dragons

As Zuko starts to teach Aang and bestow his knowledge of firebending upon him, he's quick to discover that he's lost his abilities, at least in the short term, because he's no longer as angry as he was fighting for the other side. It's Toph who suggests that the pair learn from the original source of firebending, but since there are no longer dragons for them to learn from (the last one allegedly being killed by Iroh, per Sozin's traditions), they have to go to the ancient Sun Warriors.

Fortunately, they find the Sun Warriors and receive a quest from them, embarking on a lesson to carry fire up the mountain from their ruins. What they find at the top is that two dragons-- Ran and Shaw-- having been spared by Iroh when he reached the summit, remain there with the power of the sun at their disposal. The dragons, deeming the pair worthy, teach them of the true nature of fire, a source of life, energy, and beauty, and they commence their training with this in mind.
3. Chapter Fourteen: 'The Boiling Rock, Part 1' What, exactly, is the Boiling Rock?

Answer: A prison

Sokka confides in Zuko one day, asking after where the Fire Nation keeps their prisoners, and though Zuko is hesitant to discuss it, he reveals that Sokka's father was likely taken to the Boiling Rock, the highest-security prison for his people, found on an island in the middle of a boiling lake. Sokka ends up trying to steal away to break his father out, but Zuko comes along in an effort to help and regain his own honour.

The pair manage to crash-land onto the Boiling Rock and, worse, they don't find Sokka's father as he hasn't been transported to the prison yet. They do, however, find Suki amongst the prisoners there and conceive of a way to escape. When they catch word that a new set of prisoners, including Sokka's father, are expected to arrive the next day, they opt to stay and wait.
4. Chapter Fifteen: 'The Boiling Rock, Part 2' Who helps Sokka and Zuko make their escape, getting themselves in trouble with Azula?

Answer: Mai

As Sokka's father is brought to the Boiling Rock, Sokka finally reunites with him and they, along with Zuko and Suki, try to figure out a way off the prison island. Zuko, however, is caught off guard when Mai arrives at the island, having been called there by her uncle, one of the wardens, who'd seen Zuko there a day earlier. Zuko manages to place her into a prison cell, once she declares him a traitor, and attempt escape with his new friends.

The escape plan on a cable car nearly goes belly-up, however, as Azula and Ty Lee arrive to stop them. Mai arrives, having been freed, but she allows the others to escape, much to Azula's surprise, claiming that she cares more about Zuko than she does Azula and her poor friendship. Azula has both Mai and Ty Lee, supporting the latter, thrown into prison on the Boiling Rock.

Sokka, Zuko, and the others, manage to get away and make it back to the Western Air Temple to reunite with the rest of Aang's team.
5. Chapter Sixteen: 'The Southern Raiders' The Southern Raiders were responsible for which of the following?

Answer: Taking Katara and Sokka's mother

After Azula attacks the Western Air Temple and forces Aang and co. not only to flee, but also to split up, Katara expresses her continued lack of trust in Zuko, especially since the Fire Nation is still openly against the group at every turn. It's partly due to this that Zuko decides to help Katara out, not only fighting Azula hand-to-hand to give the group time to escape, but by helping her get back at the people who killed her mother.

It's why, after speaking to Sokka, Zuko brings Katara to the Southern Raiders. Their stop there, and Katara's anger (and use of bloodbending), lead them further to the now-retired commander, Yon Rha, at his quiet farmhouse, but Katara finds that she isn't able to exact her vengeance. It's only because her mother, as she finds, claimed to be the last living waterbender to protect Katara and the village, that she was able to survive.

The pair leave without bringing harm to the former commander as Katara sees that revenge wouldn't satisfy her pain, and Katara thanks Zuko for helping her understand the truth, finally agreeing to trust him despite his past. She can't forgive Yon Rha, but she can forgive him. Upon returning, Zuko reflects and asks Aang what he plans to do when he finally fights Fire Lord Ozai, and Aang can't quite answer.
6. Chapter Seventeen: 'The Ember Island Players' What is the name of the play that Aang and the group see performed?

Answer: The Boy in the Iceberg

As the group prepares to resume the fight against the Fire Nation and Fire Lord Ozai they catch wind of a live production in a nearby town. Called 'The Boy in the Iceberg', it follows the events of the Avatar as he amasses his following and prepares to fight the Fire Lord. When Aang and the others watch the lengthy play, however, they find that it ends with the Fire Nation winning, something that all of them find not only wrong, but frustrating.

The changes to their story force them all to come to terms with what could happen. As Zuko wonders what Uncle Iroh would think of the changes he's made in his way of thinking, Aang and Katara discuss their own relationship, the two of them kissing once again. As the play comes to a close, Sozin's comet passes through (onstage). Play-Zuko is felled in battle by Azula while Fire Lord Ozin beats the Avatar.
7. Chapter Eighteen: 'Sozin's Comet, Part 1: The Phoenix King' While Ozai declares himself the Phoenix King, he gives the Fire Nation throne to whom?

Answer: Azula

Though Zuko insists that Aang continue training, Aang announces that, to take advantage of Ozai's weaker powers, he hopes to fight the Fire Lord when Sozin's Comet has already passed. He admits to not being ready-- his firebending can use more work. The war was already lost when the Fire Nation took Ba Sing Se, so they need all the strength they can muster. Zuko warns them that they have to act since he knows Ozai's plan: with the power of Sozin's Comet, he'll destroy the Earth Kingdom and all of its earthbenders, much like when Sozin killed all of the airbenders.

As Zuko teaches Aang how to bend lightning using Iroh's techniques (gained from studying the waterbenders) and warns that he might need to kill Ozai to stop his evil from spreading. Its due to Aang's stress that he starts to have bad dreams again, and it's while he's sleeping that he unknowingly travels away from his friends and to a distant island, awakening there alone. The others, after trying to hunt him down, are unable to locate him, even when they seek help to do so.

In the Fire Nation, meanwhile, Ozai begins to make his moves. Giving the Fire Nation throne to Azula and declaring her the new Fire Lord, he declares himself the Phoenix King and announces his reign of the entire planet...or what will be left of it.
8. Chapter Nineteen: 'Sozin's Comet, Part 2: The Old Masters' The Order of the White Lotus is led by who of these?

Answer: Iroh

Aang finds himself on what appears to be an island, but is revealed to be the back of a giant lion-turtle, and after receiving wisdom from a who's who of past Avatars, he's left at the edge of the Earth Kingdom to await the coming comet and the arrival of the Phoenix King. The one take-away he receives is that he must be decisive to save the world, and that might not be the route he wants to take.

In the Earth Kingdom, meanwhile, the group gives up on searching for Aang, and Zuko instead searches for his Uncle Iroh, finding him at the edge of Ba Sing Se, residing in the company of the Order of the White Lotus, an ancient underground society fighting in the shadows for peace. The Old Masters acknowledge that Iroh has led them to understand they must fight back, and with that, they unite and plan.

Without the knowledge of where Aang is, the others split up. Zuko suggests that Iroh defeat Ozai and take the throne, but Iroh fears that wouldn't make sense; the person who claims the throne should be an idealist with a pure heart and unquestionable honour, like Zuko. It's why Zuko and Katara take Appa and head to the Fire Nation to fight Azula at the throne. Iroh and the Order of the White Lotus head directly to Ba Sing Se to liberate it. Sokka, Toph, and Suki will fight to hold back the Fire Nation's forces with their forces.

And with that, Sozin's Comet finally arrives.
9. Chapter Twenty: 'Sozin's Comet, Part 3: Into the Inferno' During the Agni Kai, Zuko is struck by which of these?

Answer: Lightning

As the comet passes over the planet, Sokka, Toph, and Suki arrive just in time to hitch a ride aboard a Fire Nation airship headed out to sea. Overtaking the pilots, they manage to drop the rest of the crew out of the bomb bay and pursue Ozai, but they can't catch up to the Phoenix King's ship in time. Instead, they turn their attention to the other ships, wiping them out one by one.

The Order of the White Lotus, meanwhile, arrives at Ba Sing Se. As Iroh takes in the power of Sozin's Comet, he uses it to give cover to the other masters and they wipe out the Fire Nation troops inhabiting the former Earth Kingdom stronghold.

In the Fire Nation capital, Azula prepares for the day of her coronation. Overtaken by her new mantle and paranoia, she lashes out, banishing many of her handmaidens and soldiers out of fear of betrayal. Moments before she receives the crown, Zuko and Katara interrupt the ceremony. Zuko, coming for the crown, is challenged by his sister to the Agni Kai, a duel he agrees to. The fight is a fierce one, and the pair seem evenly-matched, but when Azula sends a blast of lighting at Katara, Zuko jumps into its path and risks his life to save her.

Aang, waiting on the shores of the Earth Kingdom, launches boulders at Ozai's ship and brings it down before it can reach Ba Sing Se, and with that, their battle begins. Powered by Sozin's Comet, Ozai's powers are immense and Aang uses all four elements to protect himself. It proves to be overwhelming, however, and Aang's only recourse is to hide away in a ball of earth to protect himself from the Phoenix King's fire blasts.
10. Chapter Twenty-One: 'Sozin's Comet, Part 4: Avatar Aang' Aang stops Ozai by using which of these techniques?

Answer: Energybending

In the Fire Nation capital, with Zuko incapacitated by lightning, Katara takes on Azula herself, using her waterbending to keep her from causing more harm. Using water running beneath the courtyard and a chain hanging from the wall nearby, Katara is able to end the fight by locking Azula down. While Azula succumbs to her madness, Katara sets to work using water's healing capabilities to restore Zuko and save him from death.

In the Earth Kingdom, Ozai blasts through Aang's protective rock and pushes him back into the rock wall behind, accidentally releasing his chakras and pushing him into the Avatar State. In this form, Ozai isn't even able to begin fighting back; Aang uses all of his powers to keep the Phoenix King at bay despite the comet's power but, unlike his predecessors' suggestion, he opts to keep Ozai alive, forcing him to be brought to justice. What he does do, however, is utilize energybending to remove Ozai's powers. Once he ends Ozai's threat, Aang puts out the fires in the Earth Kingdom and Sozin's Comet leaves the planet's skies.

A short time later, Zuko takes leadership over the Fire Nation. He and Mai reunite in his palace; she tells him never to break up with her again. Katara and Sokka rejoin their father while Suki rejoins the Kyoshi Warriors (who bring Ty Lee into the fold). At his coronation, Zuko presents Aang to the people of the world and declares the war over, bringing balance and peace to everyone. Shortly after, Zuko visits his father in prison and demands to know where his mother was sent.

The group reunites in Ba Sing Se, stopping in at Iroh's teahouse. As Aang looks over a free city, Katara joins him on the terrace and the two embrace
