Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. My postcode is 4102 which puts me in Queensland, I'm 1km southeast of the capital Brisbane and home to the Brisbane Lions as well as hosting international cricket matches. My name is usually shortened.

Answer: Woolloongabba

Woolloongabba has a sporting stadium known affectionately as "The Gabba". It's home to AFL's Brisbane Lions football team and hosts all the international cricket fixtures played in Queensland.
2. My postcode is 3747 which puts me in Victoria, I'm only 5km from Beechworth which is 3 hrs north of the Victorian capital Melbourne. I even share the same postcode as Beechworth, Murmungee, Stanley and Wooragee.

Answer: Woolshed

I'm only a small place with only 4307 residents at the last census. Being in the Chiltern-Mt Pilot National park makes it a beautiful place to visit and the Woolshed Falls is a great place for a picnic.
3. I'm in the Otway Ranges postcode 3249 and situated about 76km west of Geelong. That makes me right next door to Colac and an hour and a half from Warrnambool.

Answer: Wool Wool

Wool Wool is next to Colac in the Otway Ranges which reach the Great Ocean road and the area is famous for its cold climate wines.
4. I'm only 2km East of the New South Wales capital of Sydney and my postcode is 2011. I'm a harbourside suburb and the infamous Kings Cross is on my border.

Answer: Woolloomooloo

The suburb was named after the first homestead in the area owned by pioneer settler John Palmer. Anthropologist J.D McCarthy suggested in 1946 that Woolloomooloo could have come from the Aboriginal words Wallamullah meaning "place of plenty" or Wallabahmullah meaning "young black kangaroo".
5. My postcode is 2462 and I'm 45 km east of Grafton NSW. You have to travel past Lake Hiawatha in the Yuraygir National Park to get to me on the coast. My permanent population is only 500.

Answer: Wooli

Every year on the Queen's Birthday weekend, Wooli holds the Australian Championships of the Goanna Pulling Contest. Goanna pulling is two contestants in a tug of war with a strap around their necks. They lay belly down and scuttle backwards trying to pull their opponent with them and this action is much like a goanna's gait.
6. I'm 112kms southeast of the Victorian capital of Melbourne, postcode 3995. I'm actually on Phillip Island and home to one of the most popular surf beaches in Australia.

Answer: Woolamai

Cape Woolamai is home to the largest colony of short-tailed shearwaters (birds) on Phillip Island.
7. My postcode is 0822 in the Northern Territory. I'm approximately 150kms south-south west of the capital Darwin. Situated in the Litchfield National Park I'm midway between Adelaide River and Dundee Beach.

Answer: Woolaning

This lovely place is in a rainforest and is surrounded by an abundance of flora and fauna.
8. I'm a town located about halfway between Sydney and Brisbane on the east coast, postcode 2456. I'm on a headland and Humpback whales can be seen during June to November on their migration.

Answer: Woolgoolga

It's a lovely place and dolphins are often seen playing in the waves on the back beach.
9. I'm just 1km south of the Oxley Hwy and 26km west of Walcha, my postcode is 2354. I can be reached by road or rail and my population is only 100.

Answer: Woolbrook

About the only interesting thing I can find about Woolbrook is that it was a thriving timber town once. If anyone knows more please let me know.
10. Lastly, my postcode is 5575, which means South Australia. I'm situated between Stansbury and Coobowie. I'm down on the Yorke Peninsular practically opposite the SA capital, Adelaide, across the Gulf of St. Vincent.

Answer: Wool Bay

My last interesting fact really is interesting. Wool Bay started out as the town of Pickering in 1876 and changed its name in about 1940 because the jetty was wide enough to roll a bale of wool down. The name became Wool Bay Jetty, then just Wool Bay, which makes this town the only one in my quiz that has anything to do with wool.
