"Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" was written in 1933 by composer Jerome Kern. It has been recorded numerous times over the years by such artists as Irene Dunn, Kathryn Grayson, Nat "King" Cole and Vic Damone among other. The most popular and well known version is that of the doo-wop group The Platters who recorded it in 1958 and saw it go to number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts.
2. What popular singer with a very successful group from the 1960s went solo in 1967 to record "Can't Take My Eyes Off You"?

Answer: Frankie Valli

It was Frankie Valli of course, the Jersey boy himself, who broke away from The Four Seasons to record "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" as a solo project. The song written by band member Bob Gaudio along with producer Bob Crewe, climbed to number two on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1967.

Answer: Judy Collins

It was Judy Collins who was romantically involved with Stephen Stills in the late 1960s and inspired him to write "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" at the time their relationship was going downhill. The song became a big success in 1969 when the group performed it at the Woodstock Festival and is listed on Rolling Stone Magazine's, "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" at number 426.

While all the bands listed were very successful, The Guess Who were the ones that broke onto the American scene with "These Eyes" in 1969. Co-written by Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings, the song reached number six in the U.S. on the Billboard charts, and number seven in Canada.
5. "My Eyes Adored You" was a top selling hit U.S. hit in 1974. Which of the following Jersey Boys recorded it?

Answer: Frankie Valli

No surprises here. Frankie Valli recorded the song which originally was to come out on the Motown label. When Motown balked at releasing the song, Valli bought the rights for $4000 and got the song released on a label called Private Stock. The result was a number one U.S. Billboard tune, and renewed interest in Valli and The Four Seasons, which carried over into a number of mid 1970s hits for the group.
6. What kind of 'eyes' were The Eagles singing about in 1975?

Answer: Lyin'

The Eagles scored a number two U.S. Billboard Hot 100 hit with "Lyon' Eyes" in 1975. The song was co-written by Don Henley and Glenn Frey, and was the second single from an album called "One of These Nights". It also won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Group.

8. Bob Welch (who?) had a very big hit with "Ebony Eyes" in late 1977. Welch had left a rather popular band just before this. What fun loving band did he depart?

Answer: Fleetwood Mac

I guess Fleetwood Mac couldn't make loving fun for Bob Welch anymore, so he went out on his own. Welch recorded a solo album called "French Kiss" and "Ebony Eyes" was a result of that album. The tune hit a peak of number 14 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 during its chart run.
9. First, this guy did a cover of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". Later (1979) he got around to writing his own hit called "Sad Eyes". Who was he?

It was Robert John, who got to the top of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts with this romantic tune, one of the few non-disco songs to make it to the top of the charts in 1979.
10. Who first recorded the 1981 hit song "Bette Davis Eyes"?

Answer: Jackie De Shannon

Sorry Kim Carnes fans. The song was actually written and recorded by Jackie De Shannon way back in 1974 and was part of an album called "New Arrangement". The popular version by Miss Carnes came out as a cover in 1981, and spent nine total weeks at the top of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts. Two notes here. Yes, a cover by The Chipmunks appeared in 1982 on the album called "Chipmunk Rock", and also, the real Bette Davis was reportedly a big fan of the song.
