John Goodman and Roseanne Barr (Pentland Arnold Thomas) convincingly played the blue collar couple Dan and Roseanne Conner for nine seasons. What made this show so different was that it had the look and feel of real life, real people and difficult problems.

Their three kids talked back, Dan and Roseanne were out of work at different times and they had relationship problems. In season 9 (1997), all of a sudden the show took a different direction when we find out this was all based on Roseanne's book and that she killed off Dan on "The Wedding Episode", they didn't win the lottery (a sure shark-jumper) and that Jackie was a lesbian.

Judy Garland was in only three of the Andy Hardy series of films, i.e., "Love Finds Andy Hardy" (1938), "Andy Hardy Meets Debutante" (1940) and "Love Begins for Andy Hardy" (1941); she played Betsy Blair, the visiting 'girl next door'. They also teamed up for: "Babes in Arms", a 1939 musical comedy directed by Busby Berkeley about two talented artists struggling to make a name for themselves, "Girl Crazy" (1943) about a rich kid forced to go to an all-male school and "Words and Music" (1948) about songwriters Rodgers and Hart. "Meet Me in St. Louis" is a 1944 musical comedy about four sisters in the early 1900s, and Judy played opposite Tom Drake instead of Mickey.

Answer: Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis

"That 70s Show" aired from 1998-2006 and was about a group of high school students in 1976 who hung out in Eric Forman's basement. It was set in Point Place, Wisconsin. Before they were a 'real life couple', Mila Kunis played Jackie Burkhart, a spoiled self-centered teenager, with Ashton Kutcher as Michael Kelso, her cute but dumb, on-again, off-again boyfriend.

The show pictured life in a small town, the interactions between family and friends, and the weird styles and fads of the 1970s. Kutcher was previously married to Demi Moore; Kutcher and Kunis got engaged in 2014, married and had a child named Wyatt Isabelle.

Answer: Paul Newman

Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward met in 1953 and starred together in the 1957 film "The Long, Hot Summer"; they married a year later and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2008 (a few months before Paul's death). You would find it difficult to think of another Hollywood couple as happy for as long (except maybe Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy)! They starred in 11 movies together from 1958's "Rally Round the Flag, Boys!" to "Mr. and Mrs. Bridge" in 1990. On Newman's 7th Best Actor nomination in 1986, he finally won the Oscar for "The Color of Money"; Woodward won Best Actress in 1958 for "The Three Faces of Eve".

Answer: Paul and Jamie Buchman

Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt starred as a newly married, urbane New York City couple in the sitcom "Mad About You" (1992-1999). Paul Buchman was a documentary filmmaker and Jamie was a public relations specialist. They had their ups and downs but always seemed to resolve all their problems in half an hour, and learned to love each other more and more as time went on.

They had wacky families and friends (a sitcom prerequisite) and their wonderful collie mix dog, the lovable Murray, who is actually the reason that Paul and Jamie first met, while Paul was walking Murray.

Ethan and Uma met on the set of the sci-fi drama "Gattaca" (1997) about a genetically inferior man who assumes the identity of a superior one. Ethan and Uma were married the following year in 1998, and their marriage resulted in the other two movies, i.e., "Chelsea Walls" and "Tape" (both in 2001), as well as a daughter Maya and a son Levon. "Chelsea Walls" was directed by Hawke and tells the 'one-day-in-the-life' stories of people staying at the Chelsea Hotel in NYC; "Tape" is about 3 old high school friends reminiscing at a Michigan motel.

In 1994 Uma starred in "Pulp Fiction" as Mia Wallace, wife of crime-boss Marcellus Wallace, and dance partner of Vincent Vega (John Travolta).

Answer: Sherman Hemsley and Isabel Sanford

Sherman Hemsley and Isabel Sanford played George and Louise 'Weezy' Jefferson on both "All in the Family" and "The Jeffersons" for so long and so convincingly (throughout the 1970s and midway through the 1980s) it was hard to believe they were not a real life couple in that "deluxe apartment in the sky". Isabel Sanford appeared on Broadway in "Amen Corner" and made her feature film debut in 1967 in "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" which led to Norman Lear hiring her to play "Weezy"; in 1981 she became the first black woman to win an Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy Series.

Hemsley left George's dry-cleaning franchise to become a deacon on "Amen" in 1986.

Answer: Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh

Want to hear irony (yes, you Alanis)? Laurence Olivier went to see Vivien Leigh in "The Mask of Virtue" and then, while acting together as lovers in "Fire Over England" (1937), they became secret lovers in real life as they were both married at the time.

They began living together since their spouses refused to divorce them but, under the film industry's moral standards, they had to keep their relationship out of the public eye. They married in 1940 and appeared in three movies together. Olivier received an Oscar for "Hamlet" (1949) and Leigh won Best Actress in 1940 and 1952 for "Gone with the Wind" and "A Streetcar Named Desire".

Answer: Doug Ross and Carol Hathaway

While all of the choices were characters on "ER" (1994-2009), George Clooney and Julianna Margulies played the role of on-again, off-again lovers Dr. Doug Ross and Nurse Carol Hathaway. When we first meet Carol we find that she had just tried to commit suicide two months earlier, possibly because of her failed romance with Doug.

After she returns to work, she winds up getting engaged to John 'Tag' Taglieri; it is at her engagement party that Dr. Ross decides to profess his love for her. They eventually get together, they break up, she has his twin daughters, leaves the show and reappears in Season 15 where they are married and both work at the U. of Washington Medical Center.

Jamie Lee Curtis follows in her mother's footsteps in that Janet Leigh was the screaming victim in the shower in "Psycho", and Jamie Lee appeared as the traumatized sister in the "Halloween" series. In 1951 Leigh (Jeanette Helen Morrison) married Tony Curtis (Bernard Schwartz) and it was truly a marriage made in Hollywood Heaven (at least for 12 years). Between 1953 and 1960, they starred in 5 movies together including 1953's "Houdini".

They also had two daughters -- Jamie Lee, with whom Janet starred in "The Fog" (1980) and "Halloween H2O: Twenty Years Later" -- and their eldest daughter, Kelly Lee Curtis, who is also an actress.
