Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "She came in through the out door."

Answer: Raspberry Beret

Every time I read this quote, I think of the Beatles song "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window", but this was "Raspberry Beret" by Prince. He was busy doing something close to nothing, but that's when he saw her. "Ooh, I saw her. She came in through the out door, out door.

She wore a raspberry beret, the kind you find in a second hand store." The music video mixed the live action Prince and his band playing the song in a cartoon.
2. "You don't have to watch Dynasty to have an attitude."

Answer: Kiss

When that song by Prince came out, I loved the music, and every time I said I like "Kiss", people thought I was talking about the band KISS. In this video Prince sang to a woman playing a guitar while another woman danced around. He seemed to be describing his type of woman. Singer Tom Jones also had a hit cover of the song.
3. "St Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go."

Answer: Sixteen Tons

Tennessee Ernie Ford sang the song which told us about a man who dug "Sixteen tons, and what do you get? Another day older and deeper in debt. St Peter don't you call me 'cause I can't go. I owe my soul to the company store." I guess he bought things on credit before he had a chance to do the work to pay the money to buy the stuff.
4. "He'll rip your lungs out, Jim."

Answer: Werewolves of London

Warren Zevon described scenes from old horror movies in the song "Werewolves of London". He mentioned Lon Chaney Jr. "walking with the queen, doing the werewolves of London", but Lon Chaney Jr. wasn't in that movie. He was in "The Wolf Man" and a bunch of sequels. I wrote a novel about a policeman who was a werewolf, and I kept repeating the phrase "he ripped his lungs out", but how could someone's lungs get ripped out? Aren't they protected by the rib cage?
5. "Doc Jackson was the first to go."

Answer: Swamp Witch

"The skeeters and the fever grabbed the town like a fist. Doc Jackson was the first to go." sang Jim Stafford in "Swamp Witch". There was a description of a small town surrounded by swamp land where the Swamp Witch lived, who nobody trusted until she came to town "with a liquid deep and green, and the whole town took a sip.

The fever went away and the very next day the skies again were blue. Let's thank Old Hattie for saving our town. We'll fetch her from the Black Bayou." Someone made a joke that Stafford's music career could've been wiped out with a can of Raid ("Spiders and Snakes", "Wildwood Weed", "Swamp Witch").
6. "This frog's for you!"

Answer: Spiders and Snakes

There is a great video of Dolly Parton dressed as a little girl singing the girl part of "Spiders and Snakes" with Jim Stafford. "I got silly and found a frog in the water by a hollow log and I shook it at her and I said 'This frog's for you!'" She said, "I don't like spiders and snakes and that ain't what it takes to love me." The song described what happened when a boy and girl went out to play in the woods. Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty also covered the song. (Isn't it strange the movie "Frogs" featured spiders and snakes killing people, but the song "Spiders and Snakes" featured a frog?)
7. "He swings through the trees without a trapeze in his BVDs."

Answer: Gitarzan

What if Tarzan played the guitar and wanted to be a big star and go really far and "carry moonbeams home in a jar"? What if Jane wanted to sing and the ape wanted to join the act? It might be called "Gitarzan" by Ray Stevens. Each verse talked about each character and gave an example of each sound each of them made.

Then all three sounds were combined, including Gitarzan yodeling and Jane shouting, "Shut up, Baby! I'm trying to sing!"
8. "She rode into town to kill the man who killed her daddy."

Answer: Cow Patti

The song basically told a similar story to "True Grit", a girl getting revenge against the man who killed her daddy. Jim Stafford sang about Cow Patti and the killer having a shoot out. "Forty shots rang out. Forty people fell." They missed each other, but the song warns "Watch your step when the chips are down."
9. "He can't be a man 'cause he doesn't smoke the same cigarettes as me."

Answer: Satisfaction

While the Rolling Stones toured the U.S., Mick Jagger wrote some words about advertisement in America and life in general, implying that none of it brings satisfaction. "Satisfaction" was one of the big hits which the Stones sang at every concert.
10. "I'm the burning bush."

Answer: She's So Cold

Mick Jagger described a woman who was as cold as a tombstone, an ice cream cone, an arctic zone. However, he said he was a burning bush, a burning fire, and a bleeding volcano. This was from the Rolling Stones "Tattoo You" album, which showed the faces of the Rolling Stones covered with strange tattoos.
