Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Flight simulation game with the objective of defeating enemy aircraft

Answer: Blue Lightning

"Blue Lightning" was developed by Epyx and published by Atari, and was released in the same year that the Lynx was first launched to the North American market: 1989. The player has a blue plane (hence the game's name) that has to go into enemy territory and take down their planes, in order to help the allies succeed.

The aircraft shoots missiles as well as a machine gun to take down adversaries. This arcade-style game is considered to be one of the best ones developed for the Lynx.
2. Game where players can practice roller-skating, surfing, and BMX, among other sports

Answer: California Games

"California Games" was developed by Epyx and originally released in 1987 for the Apple II and Commodore 64 consoles. It was part of a series of games by Epyx including "Summer Games" (which had events from the Olympics like pole vault and skeet shooting) and "Winter Games" (which had events associated with the Winter Olympics like ski jumping and bobsled).

As the name suggests, "California Games" allowed players to engage in events typically enjoyed in the sunny U.S. state of California, like half-pipe, surfing, and frisbee (called flying disc in the game).
3. Game in which a blond character shoots various life forms with a water cannon

Answer: Todd's Adventures in Slime World

"Todd's Adventures in Slime World" was developed by Epyx and published by Atari in 1990 for the Lynx. The game's protagonist is Todd, a blond galactic explorer who goes into a slimy world (fittingly called Slime World) to look for gems while fighting off threatening creatures.

The game has several difficulty levels that have different features; for instance, there are some variations where the water cannon doesn't work and the player is tasked with dodging enemies.
4. Tetris-like game where players organize colored blocks coming from a conveyor belt

Answer: Klax

"Klax" was an addictive puzzle game released by Atari for many different consoles in 1990. Blocks of a few different colors (like blue, yellow, green, orange, and red) come down from a conveyor belt at an increasing speed, and players have to arrange them into a line that has three or more blocks of the same color, forming a "Klax".

A scoreboard at the bottom of the screen tells the player how many "Klaxs" there are to go before passing to the next level. The game could be played by a single person or up to two players at the same time.
5. Japanese video game where a warrior attempts to stop villains and monsters

Answer: Rygar

"Rygar", named after the game's "legendary warrior", has the goal of stopping the evil Ligar with his powerful shield called Diskarmor. The hero Rygar has to face a variety of mythical creatures and monsters, and he earns points every time he destroys one of the monsters. The player navigates through many scenarios in the land of Argool until Rygar prevails.
6. A glass-wearing character solves puzzles to join the Bit Busters Club

Answer: Chip's Challenge

"Chip's Challenge" was developed for the Lynx and first released in 1989, though it became better known as part of Microsoft's entertainment package included with Windows. Chip McCallahan navigates through more than 100 levels as he tries to collect chips and other objects to open doors that give access to the next level.

The game had many entertaining features, including time limits, battling with monsters, and solving puzzles.
7. Aarbron fights evil forces looking for revenge against those who turned him into a monster when he was a child

Answer: Shadow of the Beast

"Shadow of the Beast" was published by British developer Psygnosis in 1989. The game was rich in its graphics and was known for the high-quality music composed for the game by David Whittaker. It had an interesting plot: Aarbron was kidnapped when he was a child and transformed into a horrifying beast. Thirsty for revenge against Maletoth, Aarbron embarks on a thrilling adventure where must avoid obstacles and fireballs, and defeat Maleloth's monsters.

A remake of the game was released for PlayStation 4 in 2016.
8. A child overcomes cars, fights, and other obstacles to deliver "The Daily Sun"

Answer: Paperboy

"Paperboy" was a popular game developed by Atari and first released in 1985. In the years following its original release, the game was also made available for Commodore, Apple, Game Boy, and Nintendo consoles. The arcade game asks the player to help a paperboy deliver newspapers to subscribers while vandalizing the homes of people who don't have subscriptions.

As the paperboy travels through the street, he must also avoid other children fighting, cars, and other hazardous objects. A version of the game was re-released in the late 2000s for modern consoles like Nintendo 64 and Xbox 360, but it was not as successful as the original release.
9. A beloved yellow character jumps over obstacles and eats ghosts to earn points

Answer: Pac-Land

Part of the prolific "Pac-Man" arcade video game series, "Pac-Land" was released by Namco in 1989 for different gaming platforms. In this game, the beloved Japanese character Pac-Man must jump through obstacles like strollers and fire hydrants while eating Power Pellets and ghosts for points.

The colorful game's goal is to take a fairy back to her home in Fairyland. A sequel of the game, "Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures", was released in 1994.
10. A pilot of a futuristic vehicle navigates through tunnels and underground networks at high speed

Answer: S.T.U.N. Runner

"S.T.U.N. Runner" (the acronym stands for Spread Tunnel Underground Network) was released by Atari in 1989. The game opens with a pilot wearing a helmet and stepping into a futuristic-looking car, and the player then drives fast while avoiding obstacles along the way.

This classic arcade-style game had a simple goal: to travel as long a distance as possible in a set amount of time. "S.T.U.N. Runner" was included in several "Midway Arcade Treasures" compilations years after its original release.
