Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This player of the Orlando Magic played for them from 1993 to 1999, leading the Magic to their first NBA playoff appearance. Which player, nicknamed after the American currency in the picture, is this?

Answer: Anfernee Hardaway

Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway was drafted by the Golden State Warriors as the number three pick in the 1993 NBA Draft, after Orlando drafted Chris Webber with the first pick. The two teams swapped their selections, sending Hardaway to Orlando, where he played until 1999. Hardaway racked up over 10,000 career points, was a 4-time All-Star selection, and even claimed a gold medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
2. This Magic big man was drafted number one overall in the 1992 draft. Which former Magic player eventually won four NBA championships?

Answer: Shaquille O'Neal

Drafted out of LSU as the number one overall pick in 1992, Shaquille O'Neal played four seasons with the Orlando Magic. He was joined the following year by Penny Hardaway, and the two made a formidable duo in Orlando. After earning Rookie of the Year honors in the 1992-1993 season, Shaq went on to earn 15 All-Star selections, and four NBA championships, three of which he was also named Finals MVP.

He also won gold in the 1996 Olympics alongside Hardaway. While his championships did not come with the Magic, his time in Orlando was prolific enough for the Magic to retire his number 32 jersey.
3. This player joined Shaq and Penny in the 1994-95 season after being signed as a free agent. Together, the three led the Magic to the 1995 Finals. Who was the third member of this trio?

Answer: Horace Grant

Horace Grant spent his first seven seasons in Chicago, playing alongside Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippin. After winning three consecutive championships with the Bulls, Grant signed with the Magic, joining the duo of Shaquille O'Neal and Penny Hardaway.

The trio led Orlando to the 1995 NBA Finals, where they were swept by the Houston Rockets 4-0. Grant won his fourth and final championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2001. He retired with nearly 13,000 career points, and nearly 10,000 career rebounds.

Answer: Tracy McGrady

Tracy McGrady spent four seasons in Orlando, and was the NBA's scoring leader in 2002-03, averaging 31 points per game. McGrady defended his scoring title the following season, leading the league with 28 points per game, despite the Magic having their worst season in team history, finishing 21-61. McGrady finished his career as a 7-time All-Star, and over 18,000 points.
5. This player joined the Magic as a free agent in 2000, but much of his time in Orlando was plagued by injury. Which former Duke Blue Devil and Hall of Fame player, also known for his time in Phoenix, was this NBA journeyman?

Answer: Grant Hill

After Tracy McGrady's first few seasons in the NBA with the Toronto Raptors, the Magic went after him and Grant Hill in free agency. The hope was that the pair would make the Magic a force to be reckoned with. Hill, unfortunately, missed the majority of the season due to injury.

The injury bug kept Hill sidelined many times in Orlando, including the entire season his fourth year with the Magic. Hill was a 7-time All-Star, a Hall of Fame inductee for both the Naismith Basketball and Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame.

He also won Olympic gold with Shaquille O'Neal and Penny Hardaway in 1996.

Answer: Mike Miller

After playing his college basketball in Gainesville for the Florida Gators, Mike Miller was drafted by the Magic in 2000. After winning Rookie of the Year with Orlando, Miller went on to play 16 more seasons in the NBA. He played for seven teams in his career, and won two NBA championships with the Miami Heat in back to back seasons.
7. This Magic player played 15 seasons in the NBA, the majority of them in Orlando. Which Turkish born NBA star helped lead the Magic to the NBA Finals in 2009?

Answer: Hedo Türkoğlu

Hedo Türkoğlu played two different stints in Orlando. During his first stint, he was named Most Improved Player in 2008. That season, he averaged almost 20 points per game, and lead the Magic to 52 wins. The following season, Hedo led the Magic to the NBA Finals, where they fell in five games to the Lakers. Hedo finished his NBA career with over 11,000 points and won a silver medal in the 2010 FIBA World Cup with Turkey.

Marcin Gortat did play for the Magic during his career - he and Hedo Türkoğlu were teammates. However, Gortat is from Poland, not Turkey.

He was selected as an All-Star eight times, and won three consecutive Defensive Player of the Year awards. Howard also lead the NBA in blocks twice, and lead the league in rebounds five times. He won a gold medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and was elected to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, both as a member of that Olympic team, and as a player in the NBA.

Answer: JJ Redick

JJ Redick had his jersey retired by the Duke Blue Devils after his incredible career in college. He was selected 11th in the 2006 draft. Redick spent 7 seasons in Orlando, one of which was the Magic's NBA Finals appearance in 2009. After his time in Orlando came to a close, Redick played for five other teams before retiring as a player.

His next adventure after his playing days began after accepting the head coaching job for the L.A. Lakers.
