In 1946, a group of basketball enthusiasts came together to form the Basketball Association of America (BAA). Little did they know that this humble beginning would lay the foundation for one of the most iconic and globally recognized sports leagues in the world-the National Basketball Association (NBA).

The early years of the BAA were marked by uncertainty and struggle. The league faced financial challenges, and attendance at games was modest at best. In 1949, a significant turning point occurred when the BAA merged with the National Basketball League (NBL), forming the National Basketball Association. The NBL was initially founded as the Midwest Basketball Conference (MBC) in 1935. It changed its name in 1937 in an attempt to attract a larger audience.

The new National Basketball Association (NBA) was made up of 17 teams that represented both small towns and large cities across the country. The league counts its history from when the BAA was founded in 1946, not from when the MBC was founded. That is why the 75th anniversary was in the 2021-22 season.

Five NBL teams still exist in the NBA, they are the Lakers, Pistons, Kings, Hawks and 76ers.

Six teams that played in the BAA still exist in the NBA as well -- the Kings, Lakers and Pistons (who all jumped from the NBL to the BAA when it was founded), plus the Knicks, Celtics and Warriors.

The incorrect options were a mix of teams no longer in the NBA, teams from other sports, teams from popular culture, and teams that don't exist:
