Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which song is NOT by Black Sabbath?

Answer: Master of Reality

"E5150" is on the second album with Ronnie James Dio on vocals, "Mob Rules".

"The Writ" is the album closer of Sabbath's sixth studio album, "Sabotage". It's a brilliant song off of my favourite Black Sabbath.

"Fluff" is the only instrumental on their fifth album, "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath".

However, "Master of Reality" is not a song. It's the title of their third studio album, but they don't have any song titled "Master of Reality".
2. During the 80s and 90s, how many studio albums featured Tony Martin on vocals?

Answer: 5

Tony Martin was the frontman of Black Sabbath from 1987 to 1991 and from 1993 to 1997. He was the band's second longest-serving member after Ozzy Osbourne. The Tony Martin era Black Sabbath albums are "The Eternal Idol", "Headless Cross", "TYR", "Cross Purposes" and "Forbidden".
3. How many fingertips did Tony Iommi lose?

Answer: 2

Tony Iommi was the guitarist of Black Sabbath. He is the only member who played on all of their studio albums. He lost the tips of his middle and ring fingers of his right hand in a factory accident when he was 17 years old. He replaced his lost fingertips with homemade plastic tips, so he could continue playing the guitar.
4. Which Black Sabbath song is NOT about drugs?

Answer: Killing Yourself to Live

"Hand of Doom" is about heroin addiction and the suffering of heroin-addicted people: "Push the needle in, face Death's sickly grin, holes are in your skin,
caused by deadly pin"

"Sweet Leaf" is obviously, about marijuana and a person who is obsessed with it. It's on their third studio album, "Master of Reality".

"Snowblind" is about cocaine: "Feeling happy in my pain, icicles within my brain- cocaine". It's on Sabbath's fourth studio album, Vol.4.

Although "Killing Yourself to Live" sounds like a song about drugs, it's about how bad the music industry is.
5. Geezer Butler is a huge fan of a football club. Which club is that?

Answer: Aston Villa FC

He is a lifelong supporter of Aston Villa. In 2003, when Sabbath was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Geezer shouted "Up the Villa" as the members left the stage. He often refers to football as his "religion".
6. Continue the lyrics: "Can't stop the music going round inside my head"

Answer: I'm a rock and roll soldier, gonna play it until I'm dead

These lyrics are from the song "Back Street Kids", which is about being a rockstar and a metalhead. This song is the opening track to Sabbath's seventh studio album, "Technical Ecstasy".
7. Which song is NOT an instrumental?

Answer: Solitude

"Rat Salad" is a nearly 3 minutes long instrumental off Black Sabbath's best-known album, "Paranoid".

"Orchid" is a beautiful instrumental off Black Sabbath's third studio album, "Master of Reality".

"Supertzar" is the second instrumental on Sabbath's sixth studio album, "Sabotage", and it's one of the first Black Sabbath instrumentals which features synthetics.

"Solitude" is on "Master of Reality" too, but it's not an instrumental. It's about being alone and depressed after breaking up with somebody.
8. Which Black Sabbath album does NOT have any title tracks?

Answer: Dehumanizer

"Never Say Die!" was the last album to feature Ozzy Osbourne on vocals, who was kicked out of the band because of drug problems.

"Forbidden" was the last album with Tony Martin on vocals. It's usually mentioned as Sabbath's worst album.

"Heaven and Hell" is the first album without Ozzy and the first with Ronnie James Dio on vocals.

"Dehumanizer" was the third and last album with Ronnie James Dio on vocals. It was released in 1992 in the U.K.
9. There are a few songs which were written for live shows, so they are not official songs. Which song is NOT one of these?

Answer: A Bit of Finger

"Sometimes I'm Happy" was played a couple of times in live shows in the 70s. Its earliest performance was on the "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" tour, in 1974. It has no definitive lyrics and the lyrics were changed every time when they played it.

"Psycho Man" and "Selling My Soul" are both extra songs on the "Reunion" LP. Geezer Butler wrote them for Sabbath's reunion tour with Ozzy Osbourne.

"A Bit of Finger" is the second song on the second disc of Black Sabbath's self titled debut album. It's about falling in love.
10. Which famous Black Sabbath song features the lyrics: "Pollution kills the air, the land and sea, men prepares to meet his destiny"?

Answer: Into the Void

"Into the Void" is the album closer on Black Sabbath's third studio album, "Master of Reality". The lyrics were written by the band's songwriter and bassist, Geezer Butler. This song tells about a group of people who fly away from the dying earth in a dystopian future. This deep cut is a long-time fan favourite.
11. Which Black Sabbath album does NOT any include humanoids on its cover?

Answer: TYR

Black Sabbath's self-titled debut album's cover features a mysterious woman, standing in the rain.

On "Dehumanizer"'s cover, there's a robot who sucks out the life of a man and turns him into a robot. It's Sabbath's sixteenth. studio album.

On "The Eternal Idol"'s cover there's a statue of two naked people. It's the first studio album to feature Tony Martin on vocals.

"TYR"'s album cover doesn't feature any humans, only the black sky. It's a concept album about Norse mythology.
12. Which song does NOT include the words "Jesus" or "Christ"?

Answer: God is Dead?

In the '70s a lot of religious people attacked Black Sabbath, because of their name. Actually, the members of Sabbath are all religious and they have a few Christian lyrics.

"Under the Sun" is the closer of their fourth studio album, "Vol.4". The song talks about feeling pushed to believe in religion and fighting back against that. The part when Jesus in mentioned: "Well, I don't want no Jesus freak to tell me what it's all about, no black magician telling me to cast my soul out".

"A Thrill of it All" is a great song off of their sixth studio album, "Sabotage". The part when Jesus is mentioned: "Won't you help me, Mister Jesus? Won't you tell me if you can?"

"After Forever" talks about how good it is to be a Christian. They mention Christ once: "I think it was true it was people like you, that crucified Christ".

However, "God is Dead?" never mentions Jesus Christ, only God.
13. Continue the lyrics of my favourite Sabbath song: "Just take a look around you, what do you see..."

Answer: Pain, suffering and misery

These amazing lyrics are from the song "Killing Yourself to Live", off of their fifth studio album, "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath". The song is about how crazy the music industry is, and at some point, it also talks about how bad the world is.
14. Which Disney princess is mentioned in the song "Never Say Die"?

Answer: Snow White

"Never Say Die" is the opener of Sabbath's 8. studio album, "Never Say Die!". It was the last album to feature Ozzy Osbourne on vocals. He got kicked out in 1979.

The song talks about never giving up. The alcohol and drugs were destroying the relationship between the members, but they couldn't give up. The song has been covered by the likes of Megadeth and Overkill.

The part when Snow White is mentioned: "Snow White parasite, partners in crime". This line has an alternative version that says: "Snow White's mirror said, partners in crime".
15. Who has NEVER sung this line: "All day long I think of things, but nothing seems to satisfy"?

Answer: Cozy Powell

The lyrics are from Black Sabbath's most famous song, "Paranoid". It was played in almost every live performance.

Although Rob Halford has never been in Black Sabbath officially, he had to replace Ozzy Osbourne once, so he sang it once.

Ian Gillan was in Black Sabbath from 1983 to 1984. He also sang it a couple of times in concert on their Born Again tour.

Ray Gillen was in Black Sabbath in 1987, but he died of HIV before they could record an album (his replacement was Tony Martin), but he sang "Paranoid" once.

Cozy Powell was the drummer of Black Sabbath in the late 80s and early 90s. Obviously, he wasn't a singer, so he couldn't sing it. He died in 1998 in a car accident.
