Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the lowest number than CANNOT be scored with one dart?

Answer: 23

Of course the numbers 1 to 20 can be scored by hitting the single segments on the board. 21 can be scored by hitting treble 7 and 22 by hitting double 11 meaning that 23 is the lowest number that cannot be scored. Neither 29 nor 31 can be scored either.
2. Phil 'The Power' Taylor is undoubtedly the best known and most successful darts player in the history of the sport. In which year did Taylor win his very first world title?

Answer: 1990

Taylor won the 1990 world championship by beating his mentor and 5 time world champion Eric Bristow in a very one sided final. Bristow never won another title. For Taylor, the rest is history: he won 7 world titles in the 1990s and 8 in the 2000s -- 1990, 1992, 1995-96-97-98-99 and then 2000-01-02, 2004-05-06, 2009-10.
3. The 1990 World Championship hit the headlines when a little known player representing the USA hit the first ever 9 dart finish in a World Finals. What was his name?

Answer: Paul Lim

Paul Lim, born in Singapore, represented 3 different countries (Papua New Guinea, USA and Singapore) during his career but was wearing U.S. colours when he achieved what was then a phenomenal feat in a second round victory against Jack McKenna. This was also the only year in which Lim ever got past the second round in a world championship.
4. During the 1990s and 2000s players from England, Scotland, Wales, The Netherlands and Canada all won World Darts titles, along with one other player. He won the BDO title in 2002. He was an Australian. What was his name?

Answer: Tony David

Tony David, a shock winner of the tournament, played some fine darts throughout despite suffering from hemophilia which can affect his ability to throw. Simon Whitlock lost in the 2008 BDO final to Mark Webster. Bruce Spendley is a darts referee and is not Australian. Paul Hogan could either be the very Australian star of the film "Crocodile Dundee" (1986) or the very English dart player of the same name.
5. In order to complete a checkout of 161 in three darts, what target would a player have to hit with their third dart?

Answer: Bullseye

There are a couple of possible outs from 161 but all of them would involve pegging the bull with the third dart in order to complete successfully. Treble 20, Treble 17, Bull would be most players choice but it could also be done with Treble 19, Treble 18 and Bull should the mood take.
6. On a standard steel tip matchboard, what colour is the treble 6 segment?

Answer: Green

The 6 segment itself is white but all trebles and doubles within a white segment are green. The treble 6 would, therefore, be green.
7. Former world number one and multiple major winner Colin Lloyd played in the first three Premier League of Darts tournaments. Lloyd would walk to the stage accompanied by a mash-up of the "Jaws" theme, coupled with which song?

Answer: "Monster" by The Automatic

Probably the best walk on I've ever heard. Despite some pretty poor darts, certainly in the last year of his premier league tenure (he qualified to play for three seasons 2005-06-07), Lloyd always kept the crowd happy with his playful antics and his acting up (he controversially punched the dart board during a match at the 2001 World Championship).
He was the first player in the Premier League to win a match by an 8-0 whitewash (2007 season). He made the semi-finals of the 2002 World Championship, and won the 2005 World Match Play title.
8. Which of the following players is Belgian?

Answer: Kim Huybrechts

Huybrechts shot to stardom during the 2012 World Championships with some excellent displays which took him to the quarter finals where he was beaten by eventual finalist Andy Hamilton. It did the Belgian no harm when Sky TV continually showed close ups of his very attractive partner during their footage.
9. During a standard leg of darts I am left with a score of 80 to finish and have three darts in my hand. My first dart hits treble 16. What would I need to hit with my second dart in order to checkout?

Answer: Double 16

Treble 16 will score you 48 points leaving a mere 32 for your second arrow. This was once considered the standard two-dart outshot from 80 but most professionals will now throw for Treble 20 + double ten.
10. Which of the following World Darts finals did NOT go the whole distance and had to be separated in a deciding set?

Answer: Phil Taylor vs. Peter Manley 2002 PDC Final

In actual fact, all of the other finals went to a sudden death leg with Taylor being victorious against Painter and Gregory but losing out to Van Barneveld. The Taylor vs. Manley final was slightly more one sided with Taylor whitewashing 'One Dart' 7-0. Manley stormed off the stage at the end and refused to shake Taylor's hand.

The two met again in the 2006 final and Taylor repeated the feat. This time, Manley was a little more gracious.
