Subject: Nasty goes to The Match

Posted by: nasty_liar

This is my new blog about all things sports.

Warning to any North American readers expecting any of your sports to be featured. They will not. I do not watch Baseball, Basketball, Ice Hockey or American Football.

I am a huge sports fan though. The most important being football, or soccer to those in North America, in particular the team I have supported since I was a boy. Huddersfield Town.

Stories like this in the amateur leagues crop up unfortunate regularity. The FA need to stamp dissent out at the higher levels to help eliminate this.

It has been confirmed that VAR will not be used to rule on goalkeepers mving off their line to save a penalty. Common sense reigns thankfully.

Bernard I see that your first match for this season is at home to Derby. Interesting start. Should get a good match. I wonder who will be in charge of Derby when you meet.

VAR needs some work at the World Cup. Scotland got the short end of that one.

USA gets by Sweden 2-0, they both move into the Knockout Round.

I watched the under 21 game Romania against England. England lost but played fairly well.

I am leery putting scores in my posts, thinking that people are DVRing the games to watch as if they were live.

The behaviour of the Cameroon team left a lot to be desired, kicking, spitting, pushing and almost deciding to walk off when a VAR result did not go their way. The ref seemed to lose control of the match a few times also.
Anyway England now face Norway on Thursday.

IMO opinion the sooner VAR is given the red card, the better.......creates more problems than it solves I'd say.

I am not anti VAR but it is in the end still down to human decisions from the screenings. I am afraid it is here to stay Ray.

By the way Ruby and Pepper are doing fine. They will never really like each other but are happy co exist mostly amicably.

"Hrmph......don't hold with it..............in the GOOD old days.........." !! Firmly in grumpy old man mode! Lol Might be here to stay, but we "dinosaurs" still don't LIKE it! :(

Yes, most cats in a multi-cat household co-exists without ever becoming "best buddies", Kelda and Leo are exactly the same as your pair.

In my opinion, that wasn't soccer being played today by Spain, that was football, American football. They tackled the person before they went for the ball, particularly Alex Morgan. To say that Spain played physically today, is a huge understatement.

I’ve been missing the knockout games completely! Just haven’t had chance after trying to keep up with all my other weekends activities.

I did see a bit of the Queens club men’s singles and doubles finals though, what a day for Feliciano Lopez! Both the 37 year guys winning the two grass court tournaments (Lopez and Federer). The Murray comeback story is nice too.

From reading about the England vs Cameroon game and seeing some of the tournament and now hearing about The USA game today I would suggest that it’s not really VAR that is the problem in this tournament but the fact that some of the officials do not have the experience or skills to match the standard being produced by some of the teams on the pitch.

Not that I like VAR but in the inexperienced hands of some of the referees it is not working well.

If Spain used such cynical tactics though, at least US team were awarded two penalties which would seem like a punishment to match the tactic.

17 fouls called on Spain, 1 yellow card booking, should have been more.

5 fouls called on the USA, 0 yellow cards
