Subject: Nasty goes to The Match

Posted by: nasty_liar

This is my new blog about all things sports.

Warning to any North American readers expecting any of your sports to be featured. They will not. I do not watch Baseball, Basketball, Ice Hockey or American Football.

I am a huge sports fan though. The most important being football, or soccer to those in North America, in particular the team I have supported since I was a boy. Huddersfield Town.

Annoying that it was on Sky. It meant that I could not pay to watch it on iFollow as I’m no longer a season ticket holder.

Why would Sky want to inflict that game on anyone other than a fan of either side anyway?!

Relieved to get three points though.

Some crazy score lines that’s for sure.

Man City 2 Leicester 5 last week too.

I think the lack of a break and a full pre season training coupled with the bizarre nature of social distancing, testing, no spectators has made for this very unusual start to a season.

I was devastated by the loss to Villa. I switched the T V off before the end. We seem to have lost the plot. How we missed Mane and Firming hasn't played well for a while now.I am not hopeful for a win or even a draw against Everton next especially with the Calvert Lewin person in their team.

If you need cheering up, how about the Clive Anderson interview with Peter Cook where Peter plays the character of Alan Latchley, a manic football manager. Allegedly loosely based on Brian Clough. It starts at the 10 minute 30 second mark and lasts for about 8 minutes

The other 3 "guests" on the show are also Peter Cook in various guises. I also liked the first one, Norman House who believes he was abducted by aliens.

Can't even think about the match yesterday. Everton always play dirty.
And as for VAR.....

I didn’t see any of it, even highlights, but I did look up the horror tackle by Pickford. Now we have VAR in operation how was he not sent off! Just goes to show what I say and have said about VAR all along... it doesn’t improve The Game and is a waste of time.

There was some speculation hat VAR wasn't looked at at the time but the Premier League have now said that it was looked at and the tackle not considered worthy of a red card. The VAR ref, who incidentally was taken off these duties last year due to bad readings of a situation in a Chelsea match, must be the only person who hasn't seen it not to think it was not a poor challenge. He did not even get a yellow card.
Van Djik is out for 6 to 8 months and it looks possible he will miss the Euros for the Netherlands if they do go ahead next summer. He is such a crucial player for Liverpool hard to see how we could do as well as the last few years without him.

Just goes to show how much interpretation is the deciding factor for so many decisions on the football pitch so we might as well sweep away VAR and just allow the on pitch team to interpret for themselves. If they want to stop and look at sometimes themselves then leave the pitch side monitor so they can look at replays.

Absolutely Bernard. It is not VAR which is the problem in itself but the incompetent refs that are interpreting it. It needs more skilled and experienced refs. Coutts has been taken off Premier League duties this weekend and he will ref championship games.

Huddersfield Town are pretty safely midtable this season so that's both nice and boring!

Premier League is wide open though! Could be a very exciting title race!

I had some money on Huddersfield losing in the cup on Saturday because they always lose first round (well, third round but that's only because they get a bye through one and two). They didn't disappoint me!

Manchester United went top of the table last night making fools of everyone who was knee jerking Ole Solskjaer out earlier in the season! My prediction at the start of the season was this:
1st Manchester City
2nd Manchester United
3rd Liverpool
4th Arsenal

The Arsenal bit isn't going too well....

It was always possible to visualise the likes of Chelsea, Manchester (United and City), Arsenal, etc, ending Liverpool's unbeaten record............but Burnley woulndt have featured very high in list of probable candidates!

I have no excuses for Liverpool's run of lack of performance. There are lots of teams with injury problems and tiredness both mental and physical. We played well against Spurs and West Ham but seem to have lost the plot again. I am not keen on Thiago and made a stupid challenge yesterday which led to the first Leicester goal. Still love my team and hope we can get back to winning ways.

The Community Homes Colchester Stadium is currently being used for giving covid vaccinations. I didn't go there for mine though as my doctor's surgery was doing them.
