Subject: Nasty goes to The Match

This is my new blog about all things sports.

Warning to any North American readers expecting any of your sports to be featured. They will not. I do not watch Baseball, Basketball, Ice Hockey or American Football.

I am a huge sports fan though. The most important being football, or soccer to those in North America, in particular the team I have supported since I was a boy. Huddersfield Town.

A wicket-less day! Rare!

England took a real beating today (and add that to how they were skittled yesterday). Imagine if they successfully chased though....

Looking forward to Nadal vs Djokovic. A true battle for the ages!

Should be a gargantuan contest.

Interesting final in the women's too, and Serena will need to wait a bit longer for that next major.

And yes, very sad news about Cardiff City's new signing Sala. Another reminder of how fragile life is.

Did I miss some news?
I haven't heard anything confirmed yet, just mere speculation at this point.

What a pleasure to watch the women's final of the Australian Open - no grunting, screaming, tantrums, arguing with the umpire etc. etc.
It seemed a shame that one of them had to lose. A great match. Now for the men's final...

Watched a bit of cricket, then decided to watch Bristol v Exeter Chiefs. Returned to cricket to discover that England had been comprehensively beaten. Fantastic bowling figures for the West Indian debutant, though. Think I made the right decision in watching the rugby.

Wise decision, very wise. Collapses like that first innings are already synonymous with the current England team. I think it might become known as "doing an England" whenever any team suffers a collapse like that.

Djokovic cruised through that final. The women's final sounds like it was a much better watch with some drama included with a close first set and then when Osaka failed to see out the second set.

I haven't seen so much as a single shot unfortunately. Just don't have time at the moment for watching sport unless it's the Footie! And even then mostly just Huddersfield.

It was a beautiful match, samak. A pleasure to watch. Now the men's final, I won't bother (even though it's been played and won). All the fidgeting (Nadal) and multiple bounces (Djokovic) do my head in.

Still anticipating a response to my query concerning Sala.

You didn't miss much Barbarini, it was all too easy for Djokovic.
Plenty of fidgeting and multiple bounces as well. You would have thought that with all his money Nadal could afford some underwear that fits properly...

I didn't watch the tennis so can't comment on the time taken between points, but isn't the shot clock in place now? So nobody can really complain about any antics? Maybe I got that wrong.

Mark, I thought the question was rhetorical as it happens....

Sala was on a small private plane bound for Cardiff from France. Just him and the pilot. Contact was lost with the plane somewhere near one of the Channel Islands in the English Channel. Neither they nor the plane has been found. That was six days ago now. Like I say, sad news, as the only conclusion I draw is that they have unfortunately lost their lives.

England cricket team lost the series already! Eeek!

Still, those that now seem to prefer the shorter formats should be optimistic about the chances of World Cup glory this year!

I hear that Andy Murray has had a big hip op. I think it is primarily in order to have a greater quality of life in everyday activities but he may just fancy a final crack at a comeback if his rehab goes well!

In Premier League football I think that Liverpool are now looking serious for the title but we still have the return of the Champions League to distract! All it takes is a couple of quick losses and the chasers have chance to catch up!

Huddersfield lost 5-0 at Chelsea... all I’d like at this stage is to see a few goals scored really. Relegation is all but confirmed.

Yes you did take a bit of a beating yesterday. It is a shame that relegation looks on the cards for you.
We play West Ham away tomorrow evening and I hope for a win but we have had some injury problems at the back which has weakend things again in defence somewhat. We had Henderson at right back for the game with Leicester which we only drew still one point was better than no points.

Loaning out Clyne doesn't seem quite so wise now...

Ronnie O'Sullivan has made it past 1000 century breaks in the few weeks and also equalled Stephen Hendry's haul of 36 ranking titles. He's incredible, I love watching him play the game. Hoping to go to the Crucible this year to see the World Championships. There was a time when I would go to two or three sessions every year.

Been thinking about occasions when sportspersons are playing within the rules but against the spirit of the game. The Jos Buttler run out in the IPL is what prompts this kind of thought. Ashwin ran him out before finishing his delivery with what is commonly known as a Mankad. Another recent example is Nick Kyrgios in tennis utilising the odd underarm serve. But are these examples actually against the spirit of the games just because nobody does it? Underarm serving is allowed and what he has done is akin to a short serve in badminton?

Ronnie O'Sullivan was really the first snooker player (and probably the only one to do it to such an extent) to utilise ambidexterity to his advantage. When he first did it at the World Championships against Alain Robidoux the Canadian was outraged! Mainly because he thought Ronnie, who I think ran out a 10-3 winner, was making fun of him by playing with his wrong hand. But still, someone in sport does something unconventional and it might just change the game.

I remember how everyone was marvelling when Kevin Pieterson started switch hitting in cricket. Now many, many batsmen are doing it in

The shorter formats of the game.

I suppose when a player does something unusual that is not the norm and maybe gaining an unfair advantage then is it upto the sport to close a door by changing the rules or upto the competition to adapt.

Sorry your team did not manage to stay up in the premier league. I like to see new teams doing well and making their mark. Hopefully they will be back soon.

It's been coming for a while, not like it was a surprise! I've assumed relegation was inevitable since just after Christmas.

Maybe we can see a few more goals next season in the Championship, just hope Leeds don't go up!

Tiger Woods... does anymore need to be said. I've been amazed by his comeback. I'm not sure I really believed that he'd win another major.
