Subject: Nasty goes to The Match

This is my new blog about all things sports.

Warning to any North American readers expecting any of your sports to be featured. They will not. I do not watch Baseball, Basketball, Ice Hockey or American Football.

I am a huge sports fan though. The most important being football, or soccer to those in North America, in particular the team I have supported since I was a boy. Huddersfield Town.

Friday evening I watched a highly entertaining FA Cup match on TV..........Maldon & Tiptree v Newport County.

It was difficult to realise that whilst Newport play in League 2 (4th tier) of EFL, little Maldon are in 8th tier (Isthmian League North Division).
It was interesting for several reasons for me.

1. Their Manager Wayne Brown played for Colchester 2004-20078.
2. My No.2 team (Bury Town) are in same League.
3. Maldon is one of my favourite places in UK....:)

I watched bits of the match. Was sorry Newport scored a last minute goal but Maldon & Tiptree can be proud of themselves.
I also love Maldon. In the summer we saw seals out in the estuary. I have two friends living in Maldon so I go over there a fair bit. Housing is quite expensive to buy there considering it is not served by any rail links.

What's going on with the Premier League investigation?

Off topic a bit...............Ruby used to be a rail link to Maldon when I was a kid, fell foul of the dreaded "Beeching Axe" as did many Branch Lines.
I remember they opened Haverhill up as "London overspill" area, trebled the population..........and closed the railway (so that the Londoners couldn't escape, so the "locals" claimed).

Last time I went to Maldon, probably around 1980.......me and my ex walked along causeway, and sat on steps at end of it, looking out over estuary............it was low tide, and to be hauntingly beautiful and peaceful........I'll never forget it.

What is the Premier League Investigation about. Are you referring to the one the Premier League is carrying out regarding Man City and fair play or do you mean something else?

I’m curious too Mark, what investigation do you refer to?

In other news Huddersfield lost to local rivals Leeds United yesterday. Always one of my favourite matches of the season but I prefer it if we can win and have bragging rights. Looks like they might go up this year...

I saw a blurb about an investigation by the EPL regarding fan behavior, specifically targeting verbal racial harassment. Apparently something came to a head in the Man U.v Man City game.

Yes Mark there was abuse if at least one United fan. This is usually dealt with by the club and hopefully the fan will be found and get a lifetime ban. This nastiness us unfortunately creeping back into the game.

Klopp has signed a new contract to 2024. So happy.

Does that now ensure that he will be sacked at some point?

Food for thought...

Any football manager..........or probably any manager, full stop.........who receives a "Vote of confidence" from Board of Director4s and/or owners of club, can confidently expect to be sacked in the near future.
Signing a new contract may also come under the above.

Yes that's very true.

What I really meant was that this long contract now ensures that he will be there long enough to go through a lean period or bad spell and be sacked!

Gerrard, manager heir apparent had earlier signed a 4 year contract with Rangers. Is this a coincidence.

Haha! I wondered that also... but I thought I was getting too far into conspiracy theory mode.

Gerrard has done well at Rangers. I am glad that he has decided to stay. Was just sorry they didn't beat Celtic last week.
Madness week for Liverpool coming up. EFL Cup match against v Aston Villa on Tuesday followed by Club World Cup match the following day in Qatar. How can this happen. We will have to play a less experienced team in the EFL. I am sure the club would prefer not to have to go to Qatar.

Re post 526...

Ray, Had a lovely day in Maldon today with a friend of mine who lives there. Did not visit the football ground but had scampi and chips in Wetherspoons.

In reply to 538 they have chosen this form of madness. There are free slots for fixtures in January made by pushing the semi final legs back. That was on the table but they chose to do this instead.

Therefore, no real sympathy!

Everybody does their level best to be eliminated from this competition without looking like it anyway and this is just the next step. Rather than play more fixtures later than everyone else in January they chose to use a complete second string while the stars are away playing the World club cup.

Sick of even my own team, I bottom half championship team, playing weakened sides in the cups. At least the top teams like Liverpool have something bigger to play for and also have superb second string players. It's just an embarrassment to the cups that championship sides do it. I'd love a cup run every now and then! I've never even seen Huddersfield reach a quarter final in 30 years of watching them.....
