Subject: Nasty goes to The Match

This is my new blog about all things sports.

Warning to any North American readers expecting any of your sports to be featured. They will not. I do not watch Baseball, Basketball, Ice Hockey or American Football.

I am a huge sports fan though. The most important being football, or soccer to those in North America, in particular the team I have supported since I was a boy. Huddersfield Town.

I watched some of the ball game when I got back from the cinema as my friend on Long Island is a Yankee fan and was watching it. I did not manage to get to the end but did enjoy what I managed although did not really understand the the rules and scoring. It was very well attended.
John Henry the owner of the Red Sox is also the owner of Liverpool FC.

Yes Germany beaten by Sweden amazing. Quite fancy the Netherlands to go through.

I am quite excited about it. I think the U.S. has the better chance. England can let things slip in midfield sometimes but I would obviously love to see us win.

USA strong favourites for me but you never know. Will be an interesting duel between Bronze and Rapinoe down that flank.
Surely the winner of this semi final will go on to win the tournament.

Great game, very enjoyable except the result of course.

I agree, USA deserved it on balance but they were lucky toward the end. It can be dangerous to only hold a one goal lead but fractional offside and missed penalty let them off! Mind you, I could only see one winner had it gone to extra time. England players looked much more tired towards the end. I think USA would have coasted extra time.

I don't consider the penalty kick by England to have been missed, it was on goal, but kept out by the efforts of the keeper.
I understand that the referee can't see everything, but there were a lot of missed penalties, and a couple of missed handballs, one by each side.
Even after the English goal being disallowed, I still find VAR to be pitiful.
I found Ellen White to be as advertised, great, Lucy Bronze, not as much.
I still can't believe that the USA won, even without Megan Rapinoe, she is the heart and soul of that team.
I think that England showed great promise, and will be a team that needs to be reckoned with in the very near future.

I think the term missed the penalty must be something we say in the UK.
If a penalty is not successfully taken be it on target and saved by the goalie or notachieved for any other reason we usually say it was a 'Missed' penalty.

Correct Ruby..........a team fails to score from a given penalty, we refer to it as a "missed penalty".
Do agree with Terra about VAR though...............it is getting silly.....disallow a goal when a blatant foul committed, or when player yards offside.........."fairy snuff"..........but INCHES!!!???

Irritating column inches and social media discussion being given to Alex Morgans excellent goal celebration. Labels such as 'distasteful' being thrown around, get a grip!

I think people ought to remind themselves that this is a competition. Heated competition between two of the best teams in the world. You want some heat. You want some rivalry. Without these things sport is nowhere near as appealing. I wish in this day and age of intense scrutiny the public and media would just allow sportspeople to show their character without being chastised for it. Do we want to watch robots? And I don't mean Peter Crouch (look it up 'Peter' 'Crouch' 'robot').

Remember how I was saying that rivalry means a lot in sport?

I’ve made the effort to switch on Rafa Nadal vs Nick Kyrgios at Wimbledon. Now I don’t tend to watch much tennis these days, but this grudge match has made it essential viewing.

Great match so far. Loving this. Hope Kyrgios can do it.
