Re the heavy fine for using the wrong type of fake imitation people in the baseball stands-- "Female fans" are supposed to be offended, the article says, but...the dolls are practicing social distance, and wearing masks, and dressed in baseball-watching attire--- Now if they were cheerleading, yah. Haha Godwit. "Trailer Park Boys". Rude and gross maybe. Inapproriate? That show is so fun and crazy. You have to watch it from the first season on. It has a wonderful ensemble cast that will grow on you. There are three films as well from the Boys. Reply #164. May 24 20, 12:20 PM |

All right Boxjaw, I will watch anything at least once. I kinda meant "inappropriate" in a good way, like King of the Hill, because heck, it's in season 12. Glad to hear it's entertaining and well done. Reply #165. May 24 20, 10:22 PM |

Just started on penultimate episode of "The I-Land" on Netflix.........jury still out as to whether I actually LIKE the series or not. Started out as a sort of "Lost", and then as plot unfolds, became more of a psychiatric "mind games" with many (FAR TOO MANY IMO) "flash backs"..............the former I liked, the latter I don't. Anyone else watch this? Reply #166. May 25 20, 1:43 AM |

The Last Dance seems to be about the history of the Chicago Bulls and Michael Jordon. A lot of people must be excited and relieved to watch this sports show. I-Land--wow, weird! Basically "Lost" but everyone is a psychopath? Reply #168. May 25 20, 1:26 PM |

Well I guess there's only so many possible plotlines, and there's so much that's already been produced. I feel like Titanic, Braveheart and Gladiator are pretty much just the same film set in different eras. A Bug's Life and Antz are the same film, which are in turn the same film as Titanic, Braveheart and Gladiator, just an insect version. Hmm, let's see, what else, oh yeah, The Lorax and The Time Machine are just the same film, but just a babyish version, even though The Time Machine isn't a particularly adult film, I have to say the Moorlocks at the end are pretty terrifying, I was so scared it my me cry when I was like 5 years old, which I could tell my parents thought was funny looking back on it, but obviously they aren't going to sit there laughing at their 5 year old son crying now, are they. So yeah, it's basically just like a really simplistic babyish version of it. Reply #169. May 25 20, 1:53 PM |

If you don't want to travel to south Korea to share a soccer game with a special doll, a restaurant owner in South Carolina didn't want her restaurant to look empty while her customers were seated at every other table. She is using blow up dolls, male and female, to be fill the tables not for customer use. The owner even admires the pretty make up on the female dolls. To bring this thread back to topic, I was excited when I saw Star Trek listed as being a marathon this weekend. But, Godwit, BBC America always shows large blocks of Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space 9 durring the week. It's not a Memorial Day marathon, it's an all the time marathon. Don't people get that eerie feeling one has when surrounded by inanimate people-looking things? re Star Trek I can only say it was listed as part of the Memorial weekend marathons from which I drew to create my list. Maybe they tossed Star Trek in there because it is available. Even though like the ever-present Supernatural, it's always available. ? In any case, great news! One can watch Star Trek. Reply #171. I heard today that there will be another "new summer season" happening in June. And that Tom Cruise had to stop shooting his newest Mission Impossible movie. I believe he was in Italy when the pandemic hit there. Similar with Vin Diesel's new sequel. There's a show that sounds intriquing. I didn't catch the name. A modern, successful Black woman is somehow cast back in time to the days of slavery, and has to negotiate her new situation. Reply #172. May 25 20, 4:55 PM |

Have been watching a few series of “Grand Designs” on Channel 4 (UK). Amazing how transformative a bit of glass, “broken plan” and creativity is to quality of life. On the movie front I watched “The Man from U.N.C.L.E” (2015, dir. Guy Ritchie). I do enjoy spy films but just didn’t get on with this one at all. Any spy film / tv show recommendations? Reply #174. 'Nighty Night' An extremely dark comedy that possibly only British viewers will have heard about? It has Julia Davis, who stars as the narcissistic Jill and Angus Deayton as her love interest, who she is determined to bonk no matter what! Steve Coogan in his role as Alan Partridge on 'Knowing me Knowing You' and 'I'm Alan Partridge'. 'Shooting Stars' - another Beeb show that was hailed for its satire. Including this - which had a great satire from 'Carry on Camping'. A film series that I know the Americans love. This is its take of 'Carry on Camping'. Well, I think it's funny - but I suppose, only those from the UK will understand the satire? I love it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZQ1PxNzhlI Reply #175. May 26 20, 11:47 AM |

Glad for the suggestions, there are plenty of UK folks here who might enjoy the shows, and others can always try them. I got "Brit Box" last year and have been mightily impressed with the British detective shows. Spies? Hmmm...thoughts on that anyone? I watched the new show "Upload", first season. Robot clerks and self-driving cars are commonplace. The plot (such as it is): Ultra handsome semi-jerk dating vain, spoiled, equally beautiful lady creates a way to make access to the Upload Afterlife free for everyone, not just the very wealthy. Handsome is in a car accident, and is Uploaded. To be Uploaded is interesting. Or stupid. Both. You learn about it as the show goes along. Basically your consciousness is saved to computer and you exist as your avatar, in a simulated world. The question of what constitutes "us"--is it a soul, a consciousness, the body--is a main theme. Possibly this show is terrible. I'm reminded of "Hallmark" movies. Still it's trying to address current questions. Reply #176. May 27 20, 12:32 AM |

Sports channels have had to resort to showing various games from years ago because sports have been canceled worldwide these past few months. That does not mean all races have stopped in the world. Andrew Cotter of the BBC found one to cover on Phillip Island, Victoria, Australia. He gave a play by play of "the little penguins sea to dune run". We saw Skip, a champion from the 1990s, watching from the sidelines, penguins with a fast waddle, fatigue setting in but a push among the race leaders at the end. It was fabulous to watch. I highly reccommend looking for this broadcast. I saw it on a newscast. I hope someone can find a link for others. Reply #178. May 27 20, 1:11 AM |
