Curious, what are you watching while the world spins around us?

What's your favorite thing about it? Does it help you get through?

They can be found on youtube, Creedy (also on a TV channel called London Live but I guess that may not be available outside of London).

Here's one on Islington, Creedy. When you access one, the others should come up a recommendations. link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnV1qONxWtc&list=PL-FPHT2SBQzDrpvmTAuTDJqvCQBcy8dLC

You might also enjoy the Joolz Guides - they're a bit longer (at around 20-25 mins on average) but still packed with useful and useless information - ideal for Funtrivia fans! Here's one on the City of London, as opposed to London or, as my Londoner father used to say, "Lunnon Tahn".

link https://youtu.be/kfnpYeYTQyg

Joolz has been making these videos for so long he's now got several old ones he can take clips from. Anyway, he's done loads of them so pick somewhere you want to go and have a hunt around. You may end up somewhere completely different but that's the fun of London which has lots of squares but don't expect them to be like blocks - lots of them aren't square at all.

Actually most British towns are like that - If you turn left, left, and left again you almost certainly won't end up where you started. I grew up in one of the first "planned" English cities, i.e. built from scratch where there was no town before, and the first buildings were erected in a grid pattern called "chequers". However, that was in 1125 and the plan didn't last long!

I see the hook! Even from across the pond, it's refreshing to see real people walking on real streets. :) And I like his voice. As if it were NORMAL to be walking about.

Reminds me of Wild Kingdom. Commentary on the everyday life on the savanna: "Here hungry lions can be seen standing in the queue...." in a super calm, resonant voice...

Thanks for sharing these with us.

I'm well into "Bridgerton" season 1. If you like Pride and Prejudice, and such, you'll love Bridgerton.

We're talking about movies and TV shows we like (and don't) so that others might be entertained at home or theatre.

I'm watching more of the London districts series.
I see why it strikes me differently. There's no US "loud". Everyone is peaceably strolling about, there's no bright neon signs, no one in the park or on the street shouting or waving their arms, no purposely impressive skyscrapers or armloads of signs shouting from a shop window--even your graffiti is neatly painted. It's quite polite and subdued, eh? Also, a lovely focus on help for the lost or homeless, in this century or last.

Akin to the difference in production of a TV series. Ours will have lots of banging and blowing up, guns and arguments and special effects. In general. I'm inspired to go watch British and US versions of the same show. "The Office" I know. Care to suggest others?

Godwit, There was a British show called Life on Mars which has a US version. Also House of Cards was an English show and then had a US version. Both worth watching I think, if you can find them now.

It's interesting Flopsy that some of Joolz walks are recorded during the first lockdown. The streets are quite quiet and some shops are boarded up.

It's good to have a range of walks to suit all tastes and interests.

There are also a few Christmas walks where they look at the lights every year, not to mention the crowds they usually walk through. Perhaps I should save those up for the right season - and we just missed it!

However the food videos make me hungry at any time so if you need a good meal, check out the videos on the street markets - Borough, Spitalfields, etc. Here's a taste of Camden:

Note that this guy doesn't do a commentary, he just walks and films. I think it gives a good sense of what it's like to walk around yourself - he has to get through crowds (pre-Covid), and sees everything, warts and all.

I also found it interesting, Mix, to compare it to "your" guy's view of Camden. I have to say I love his commentaries and his historical view is very interesting. Here's his video:

You can never have too much of London for "he who is tired of London is tired of life".

Thanks for those videos Flopsy. They bring back memories. I haven't been to Camden for some years now - a bit too hectic for me these days, but after we got married, my husband and I went to a restaurant there by the canal with a few friends, and sat at an outside table. It was a lovely setting. Sitting near to us we noticed Sting's then wife, actress Frances Tomelty, but she wasn't with Sting, but another man. Nobody took much notice of them. She and Sting divorced not long afterwards.

The market is a great place to shop.

P.S. Sting was having an affair with her friend and neighbour, Trudie Styler. That must have been a bit of a blow.

"Virgin River" fun series. Akin to Doc Martin or Northern Exposure. City medical person moves to remote village full of quirky characters.
