I watched "The Nanny". No, not the one with Fran Drescher. What I watched was a 1965 movie with Bette Davis. She did subtle creepy excellently. A wonderful documentary to see is "The Way I See It". It is about the years Pete Souza spent as official White House photographer in the Reagan and Obama administrations. Reply #501. Oct 18 20, 1:25 PM |

The renew and eschew announcements are out! What's cancelled on TV; what's got another season? Better Call Saul: Coming back! This is Us: Yep, here again Bluebloods: They just keep on keeping on The Simpsons: Live next door and are never moving SuperNatural: Final season! Crazy Ex-girlfriend: Nixed Orange is the New Black: Going going gone Ozark: Returns Stranger Things: Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water... What's that one with Danny DeVito? Ah...well, hmm. It's cancelled. There's too many big time stars making an outrageous amount every episode. Homeland: Slides into home plate, ends. Handmaid's Tale: Blessed be, renewed. Reply #503. The Undoing: A new HBO I think mini series (called a "limited series" whatever that means) with Hugh Grant and Nicole Kidman--it's a thriller about a "perfect" couple and mysterious murders. It takes a very big personality with quality acting chops to share the screen with Kidman ...sorry Hugh, I just can't see it. Rene, Julia, sure. But, the producers think it's a win and that's their realm so...check it out. Reply #505. Oct 25 20, 3:10 PM |

I just started watching "Hell on Wheels", a western set during the building of the continental railroad. Seen 4 episodes, will continue. Hope I really like it, since it has 4 or 5 seasons. Reply #506. Oct 26 20, 5:03 PM |

Looks like Hell on Wheels had 5 seasons (2011-2016) on AMC. It says it is an "American/Canadian show". Never seen that before. Let us know, Paul, what you think. Reply #507. Oct 26 20, 9:59 PM |

I'm utterly hooked on "Last Tango in Halifax". What fabulous acting. Although their lives are such a fiasco, I have dreams about their problems. Reply #508. Oct 27 20, 11:48 AM |

I've now seen 6 episodes of "HOW"s. It's not the fastest paced show I've ever seen, but good enough that my wife and I have decided to stay with it. I'd rate it 7/10. Reply #509. Oct 27 20, 1:43 PM |

Netflix is raising their price a tish. But adding "originals". The Queen's Gambit, about chess, sounds good. Anyone seen it? For halloween costumes, zombies and vampires have lost their appeal. Skeletons rule the day. So "they" say. Evil Cats with fangs and a yearning to dominate the world still gather a following. For those who want to try this year's Halloween Challenge. Reply #512. For something to do on Hallowe'en tonight, we watched "The Shop Around the Corner" (1940) with Margaret Sullavan and James Stewart. This was the foundation on which 1998's "You've Got Mail" with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan was built. There are all manner of intentional little connections with the older film which are apparent only to those who have seen what we saw tonight. Reply #516. Nov 01 20, 2:53 AM |

Wonderful! Always looking for a lovely show, thanks. I started The Queen's Gambit. Wow. Strange, and fascinating. A janitor teaches an odd little orphan girl to play chess. At age 9 she can beat anyone she meets. Meanwhile the orphanage has caused her to develop a tranquilizer addiction, and her social skills are going the wrong way. Reply #518. Nov 01 20, 10:27 AM |

The Durrells, a TV series. A silly, silly interesting family decides to move to Corfu. Immediately it's clear why Durrell wrote "My Family and Other Animals". As I recall his family was none too pleased. What I remember about Durrell--didn't he write the exquisite fantastic quartet "Justine"? He is known for penning a 3 page description of a sunset. His family moves at a much faster pace. Reply #519. Nov 02 20, 11:07 PM |

The Durrells-- Gerald was the younger boy in the TV series (the one who loved animals) and wrote "My Family and Other Animals." One of the older brothers, Lawrence, wrote "Justine" as the first part of "The Alexandria Quartet." My wife really enjoyed "The Durrells in Corfu" and I saw bits ot it. (She can binge all night, while my bedtime has gotten earlier and earlier as I age---ungracefully at times.) Lately, we've made the mistake of starting streamed series as they begin and not waiting for the entire season. I've gotten so used to watching everything at once, I find it harder to keep up from week to week, especially since we're watching 3 very different shows: "Tehran," "Fargo- Season 4," and "The Undoing". Last night, we watched the whole season of "Flesh and Blood," the Masterpiece series. I thought it had concluded, but I read somewhere there would be a Season 2. My question is "Why?" Reply #520.
