Curious, what are you watching while the world spins around us?

What's your favorite thing about it? Does it help you get through?

Thanks... I shall have to hunt around. Breaking Bad is on Prime but you have to pay extra... ha! fat chance. That really irritates me, pay a subscription to a streaming service but watching the thing you want to see costs even more? I don't think so!

Exactly. I feel the same way. I won't pay $2.99 for a movie that my subscription says I can't see free. Or sign up for 6 other subscriptions so I can access other stuff. Maybe it makes sense some way I don't see. It seems like internet-highway robbery.

Sorry Breaking Bad isn't free access. Darn. That show is fantastic. Very gory and very violent. But it's cartel so...

Direwolf--you are so welcome here and I've enjoyed your suggestions. There's just a difference between saying you don't agree--which makes for lively and interesting exchange; and saying the PERSON is wrong for thinking what they think. With just a little shift in the way something is said no one feels criticized.

Sliders! Anyone seen that show? I saw half the first episode and it seems like great fun, if you like sci fi.

A young man discovers a wormhole so he can jump in and land in some other time or alternate earth reality. He can go to a time where say WWI came out differently or Jefferson never bought the Louisiana purchase.

Yea, it was ok for the first three seasons but then main cast members started leaving the series and it kind of lost it's edge.

Loved the Sopranos, flopsy. It can be quite violent, but there is a family (real family, as well as 'family') dynamic, as well. It's well worth watching from beginning to end.

I've been meaning to watch the Sopranos, and The Wire, also.

The Wire is wonderful. My American friends say it's truly Baltimore which is remarkable, given that half the cast is British. Even one of the American actors lives in London. It's like going into a diner for a proper American breakfast of pancakes, bacon and syrup only to be served a full English. But you'd never know so eat up, you'll enjoy it!

I had a Soc. professor that *adored* Sliders. She often had us watch clips of the show to illustrate a point or sometimes a whole show. She was a big Star Trek fan too.

I like it when teachers use current media in class. Neat.

Has anyone seen the move I believe it's called The Mexicans? Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt. I would think with that cast it's good but I vaguely recall it was panned. ?

Just finished ALL of the Great British Baking Show last night. I understand that the filming of the next season has been delayed by the pandemic. Whatever shall we do!?

Thanks for the suggestions on the spy films everyone!

I have watched the James Bond films a few time - managed to buy the virtual box set quite cheaply a little while back.

Also love that Hitchcock was brought up. Such a great set of films - with the odd stinker thrown in. Not a spy film but my personal Hitchcock favourite is ‘Rope’ - very experimental with long takes and an intense, almost claustrophobic feel.

I haven’t seen ‘Nikita’ so that might be what I end up trying!

Though "bake a cake" sounds good too

I LOVE "Rope". Hitchcock was astounding. Didn't need to show anything overtly to scare the begesus out of us.

Okay, finished it. In other words, I got through GOT. But I think I missed a bit... did anyone ever say "but Jon, she's your auntie"?

They did! That seemed to be part of Snow's losing his great enthusiasm towards her. And the beginning of the end ...

Thank you, Godwit, for the reference. We will investigate those shows.

I HAVE been baking, too much, in fact. In the normal course, I bake, we have a bite with supper, and the next day I take the remains in to court to share with my clerks. Since I closed the court and we have all been working from home, there is no "outlet" for all of those baked goods and we eat them ourselves ... which is very very bad!

Ah, too many home made, fantastically delicious FatherSteve creations at home. What a terrible problem I would like to help you with. May I send my address?

A few years ago, when streaming first became available, I signed up for Netflix (I had been a Netflix DVD subscriber before) and then added Hulu soon afterward. Then Amazon Prime had to be added--plus its add-ons that soon followed: Britbox, Starz, PBS Passport. And then something was on HBO, so we had to have HBO Now. Everyday it seems that a new provider is being added. It's hard to keep up with what series or movie or special is on which streaming service. Inevitably, the one show that I want to watch is on a new service that I don't have! Nevertheless, here are the ones that I recommend for anyone stuck at home who hasn't binged them yet: Deadwood (series plus the movie follow-up), The Wire, Breaking Bad (plus its movie) and Better Call Saul, Fargo (original movie and all three tv seasons), the Americans, and Six Feet Under. We've recently binged Ozark on Netflix. It's okay. If you can stand the much-dated production values--and can find it-- the original Upstairs, Downstairs. The Jewel in the Crown, especially the first couple of episodes, is not to be missed (again, a little dated). Morse, Inspector Lewis, and Endeavor if you've never seen them. Boardwalk Empire, especially the early seasons. Anything with Maggie Smith, especially Gosford Park. Wallander, both the English and the Swedish versions. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and its two sequels (Swedish versions), not the American copy. And several dozen others that I just can't think of right now. I'm always looking for new things. Keep the suggestions coming.

Thanks for a wonderful list. If you think of others come on back.

I missed that Fargo had TV seasons.

Six Feet Under.

So true about the ever-escalating service fees and add-ons. A dedicated die-hard could use the "free month trial" and catch a lot of shows that way. But you'd have to stay on top of the cancellation dates. Occasionally you try to cancel and they send back a "Sorry, I didn't get that" message.
