Curious, what are you watching while the world spins around us?

What's your favorite thing about it? Does it help you get through?

"Trumbo". It's about the "Red Scare" blackballing during the MacCarthy era. Brian Cranston is,as always, wonderful.
On Netflix.

That's a great one, Paul, thank you.

What is Cranston up to since Breaking Bad?

Oh hey thanks Paul, that's great.

Gosh, busy man. No substantial TV dramas of late. Just drifting about from Tony Award to Tony Award, voicing animals, winning Best Actor awards.

Bumming.

I mostly watch YouTube these days, which is how I stumbled upon K-Pop girl groups, in particular

<<<<< Mamamoo.

But imahogg's post, (( I just finished binge-watching Professor T., a three-season (39 episodes) show set in Antwerp. He's a "Monk"-like character who teaches criminology but assists the police on cases. Also like Monk, he has a personal case to solve while living with his strange personal quirks. A really good supporting cast helps this series. I'd love to hear from anyone else who's watched it! (I think I got it as a Masterpiece add-on to Prime.) )), reminds me of a great French-Czech collaboration on a Maigret TV movie series, starring Bruno Cremer as Maigret (1991-2004). (I have not seen the more recent British series, so I can't comment.) It's lower rated by the general public than I would have thought, but reflecting on the series, I suppose it's a little slow paced for modern tastes. I think what makes it work for me is Cremer's understated performance. He seems slow, plodding, and not the least bit bright, and that's how the characters in the series treat him, until he springs his trap at the end, explaining in detail exactly how the case went down, surprising everyone with his insight.

I'm so glad to hear another voice for Professor T!

I started watching after Iamhogg suggested it and I love it. The Professor is multi-dimensional and fascinating. A mix of inept, awkward, vulnerable, brilliant, unable to understand how his "truths" hurt others, yet a good man too.

I can see what you mean about slow. There's a lot of interpersonal and psychological stuff going on, especially about relationships. Not so much action and excitement as a study of humanity. I'm reminded of what's that legal show with Ally McBeal? (I can hear MiraJane right now, "It's called Alley McBeal, Godwit". lol! Maybe it was. She keeps us straight, she does).

Some viewers don't like non-English shows. Apparently movies suffer as well if they aren't in English. Lots of other-language shows suggested here in this thread though so that's not likely a FT crowd issue. I donno...anyone offer an opinion why you do or don't like Professor T?

Are there only 3 seasons? I'm just in season 1 episode 5. Will be sorry if I run out of episodes. Have you seen anything else by this actor?

Thanks for stopping by with your comments :)

I never watched the show about Ms. McBeal. From I do know about it, I found it annoying.

Try watching one and see if you are truly annoyed or only assumed or expected you would be annoyed.

I like to be annoyed with real authority.

I don't foresee anyone being annoyed with Professor T. I mean, everyone is, who meets him--hmm. I might have to retract that. You find him intensely annoying. But you can't know until you give him a look.

Yes I understand MiraJane. That's a great thing about shows. We don't have to watch a single thing we don't want to.

Professor T uses a similar trick to Ally McBeal, which I haven't seen in other shows that I recall. They both have visual hallucinations of their feelings and thoughts, which help them gain insight. Oh, I remember another one. It was a detective who had schizophrenia. His hallucinations led him to solve crimes.

There was a mediocre comedy on HBO called Dream On which featured the protagonist always thinking in terms of scenes from old black & white TV shows.

I tried watching Ally McBeal but it was definitely chick-fodder. I didn't get the jokes. My mother liked it, though.

Eric McCormack (from Will and Grace) was the star of "Perception", about the schizophrenic neuropsychiatrist. Whatever that is? The show started in 2012 and ran for 3 years.

There is a consensus that, except for your mother, "Ally McBeal" is a thumbs down, in much part for her very silly portrayal of a powerful, accomplished woman. If Streep in "The Devil Wears Prada" burst into oddball song, showed cleavage or saw little munchkins dancing, she wouldn't have been the Force that she was. None of the people in that show are just arm candy. Maybe you didn't get "Ally McBeal" because it's dumb. :) (Don't tell your mother we said that).

Though William Shatner as a lawyer was quite silly, in Boston Legal, as well. Drunken, lecher, and finally he had dementia, didn't he? Without Spader he would have seemed an idiot, instead of a genius. My mother met Shatner at a party long ago. He was entirely drunk and terribly rude to everyone. But, eventually he got sober. And started Rapping. Great spunk, that odd fellow.

I am intrigued by the "inner thoughts projected as an external image" technique. Like "A Beautiful Mind" and perhaps "Sixth Sense". I'd like to see this flash to black and white you mentioned, HairyBear, thank you.

Tried another suggestion here that several of you listed.

The Bench. A TV series set in court, highlighting everyone on trial that day, their families, and the court staff and judge.

Two episodes....I don't think it's for me. Can someone explain what the attraction is?

Just started (4 episodes) "Lillehammer" with Steven van Zandt formerly of The Sopranos. He also played with the E-Streeet Band.
It's a comedy/mystery. Van Zandt's toupe & scowl are worth the price of admission alone.
Also enjoying another mystery: "Reckoning"

Just finished S9 of "Shameless" and am awaiting S10, due July 26th.

Boston Legal! Oh how I loved that show. I'm not sure if it was ever broadcast here but I managed to see it, just don't ask how. I used to cry with laughter, out loud, right here in my dining-room. Just as well there was no one to see me or I might have been carted off, in one of those white jackets with the long sleeves and ties!

Let us know how this Lillehammer turns out to be, Paul.

Boston Legal was good, I agree! I have become a big fan of Spader. You like him? Though why he sticks with Black List, I donno. Loved it first couple of seasons (even though his co-star is a bad terrible awful actress). Any favorite Spader shows?

And...have you seen Shatner rap? If you want to LOL. You can't stop watching because he's amazing, despite being hideously bad. Or so it seemed to me. Is he in anything these days? Besides commercials.

I binged through season 2 of The Handmaid's Tale. I saw season 1 ...two years ago? Hadn't had Hulu, since. I think they went overboard in some episodes--still it's a fascinating (creepy scary) show.

We all have our own sense of what we find entertaining, but since you asked, G., I'd normally give it 6/10.
During a pandemic, probably 8/10:-(

We just finished watching "The Big Family Cooking Showdown." There were two batches in the series. The first was hosted by Nadiya Hussain (who we loved on "The Great British Bake Off" where she was a contestant) and Zoe Ball and judged by Giorgio Locatelli (with sexy curly hair, my wife says) and Rosemary Shrager. The second changed everything. New hosts and judges (combined) were Angellica Bell and Tommy Banks. Not so sure about a third season but, if there is one, we'll be dutifully there.

I'm glad you found another show to enjoy, FatherSteve.

I hate to do this, but, (I will). I heard on the radio about a new show. I remember thinking it might be perfect for you and your lovely. However--I can't recall the name. :(

It's out there, though. What I recall is a woman will host, they knew her from another show and they were all in a tizzy excited about it.

I liked "Boston Legal" while it had Rene Auberjonois. When they switched him out for John Laroquette, I stopped liking it. I liked John as the oversexed assistant DA in "Night Court", but I haven't liked him in anything since.
