G'wit I changed it to drive a team member nuts:-) I also liked (didn't love) "Dirty John". Worth a watch, IMO. Reply #461. Sep 25 20, 8:58 PM |

Discovered a fascinating series called "River", about a detective haunted by ghosts (or hallucinations) of dead victims. On the lighter one of the funniest comedies ever, "The 'Goes Wrong' Show". Trying to finish a Welsh thriller series ("Keeping Faith") before it leaves Amazon Prime. Been watching a lot of old movies, too. Reply #462. Sep 26 20, 12:27 AM |

Gracious! Glad you stopped in as you haven't logged in for a while. The detective ghosts sounds fun. Old movies? Black and white Bogart type? Old such as Grease or The Sting? Old could even mean (sorry to say) 1990s. I've been shocked a few times of late to see someone say or write "old" in reference to something from pre-2010. Good heavens. Reply #463. OH, when I say old movies I mean OLD... 1920s-50s usually, in black and white, maybe 60s and 70s, but not likely 80s. :D I wouldn't call "River" fun but it is ... gripping. And then there's always Columbo. Reply #464. Sep 26 20, 11:26 PM |

While you are watching black and white shows, for some high quality older movie and more recent TV play check out quizzes by robbieh. She had an unusually adept ability to understand and explain the medias. She especially loved film noir and the "old" movies. I rejected both Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones when they were released, because early episodes seemed just gratuitous gore and sex--but robbieth pressed me to keep watching. I'd love to know what epic TV series she'd recommend right now. Though the ardent FT author has been absent since Dec 19', she left some gems for us. Don't think "easy". But not intended to trip you up, either. Reply #466. Sep 27 20, 9:08 AM |

Watched "The Wayward Bus" this morning, while we're on the subject of old movies. It was based on the book of the same name by John Steinbeck. Reply #467. Sep 27 20, 10:52 AM |

I kinda poured cold water on "Ratched" (Netflix) a few days ago. I decided to try it again, looking at it as I would a campy Mel Brooks/Woody Allen spoof of Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein in OverThe Cukoo's Nest. I have watched 6/8 episodes and am going to finish it off tonight. In retrospect I think you may enjoy. It'll pass a few hours at the very least. Good luck:-) Reply #468. Sep 28 20, 3:17 PM |

Thanks Paul! I'll look forward to watching their take on that famously wRetched nurse. Glad to hear on second look it was worthwhile. I'm fascinated with Ozark just now. Everyone, whatever their thang, is so relentless. Determined and focused, each barrels down the wrong path, using impressive ingenuity and grit to hurl themselves ever closer to disaster. Reply #469. House of Cards-- The original British House of Cards trilogy is excellent; unfortunately not on any streaming any more. I hope it will be back on soon. I think I've watched it at least three times. Season 1 was outstanding. So original, so creative. Now, you see the things that were done then all over the place. But, at that time, it was new and fresh. Season 2 was also wonderful. Season 3 was not as good, but I guess you have to find an ending somewhere. Francis Urquhart, the original FU, made the series a joy to watch. As far as the American version, as long as Kevin Spacey was there, it was OK. But Robin Wright! It's hard to believe that the Princess Bride-- or even Jenny-- turned into Claire Underwood. I forced myself to watch the last season just to have some sort of closure, but it wasn't easy. Reply #475. Oct 02 20, 8:54 AM |

Interesting! Do you think British/US versions are best appreciated in their own system? Would a non-British viewer follow the British House of Cards well? Sounds like we'd have to purchase the British version, but I would like to see it. Although hugely popular in the US I couldn't stick with it past season one. Spacey and plot a bit too contrived I felt. Although could be more realistic than we'd like. Agree Spacey was able to take command of a dark character. His absence wasn't anticipated so they limped along as best they could final season. Reply #478. Oct 02 20, 12:22 PM |

I hear that the studios have resumed some production. A lot of it via Zoom where lighting techs have to guide the actor to place lighting in the actors home, and s/he's got cords cables and devices everywhere in the living room, while directors and make up try to do their job remotely.
