Curious, what are you watching while the world spins around us?

What's your favorite thing about it? Does it help you get through?

I remember both Jim Carrey and Robin Williams lamenting that comedy film and comedians are rarely even considered for awards.

Good to know Ned got one. :)

I wouldn't ever expect to see John Malkovich as Hercule Poirot, but he does it well in The ABC Murders, released in 2018, but, apparently it didn't go too far?

Poirot in this series is older, struggling to get cases, suffering financially, and for some reason shunned by many he encounters. Uninvited he investigates a mysterious killer who knows Poirot very well.

The BBC has been doing one Christie adaptation each year, usually aired at Christmas (one was delayed to to reshooting because of a problematic actor in a supporting role). The others haven't been Poiroit or Marple mysteries (I think they did Ordeal by Innocence and And Then There Were None). They're being released on Amazon Prime in the US, not sure about DVD availability (there was a recent remake of Witness for the Prosecution which was more faithful to the short story - Christie wrote a few versions - which I saw on DVD but I don't know if it's part of the same series).

I think this year's is The Pale Horse which hasn't yet had a faithful adaptation - and from what I've read, this one won't be either. It's one of my favorites, and while I'm OK with mild/moderate changes in general, I don't want this one to be changed.

Last time I checked, there were 3 or 4 Christie novels which had never been adapted (one is Passenger to Frankfort - one of her last, and one is Death Comes As the End which was set in Ancient Egypt), and I think those 3 or 4 are tentatively scheduled for adaptation. Provided the ratings and budgets remain positive.

A dedicated Christie fan! Thanks for that info and insight. Here's to your Pale exactly as you'd like. Though, Director's seem insistent they be "creative" in their approach.

I'm on Series 2 of "Agatha Christie's Poirot", 1990. Played by David Suchet. I feel that he's much more interesting than their portrayal of the crimes he investigates. But there's more than ten years to go--I'll be looking for improvements.

Apparently Suchet did a series of Poirot theatre shows in the UK, Australia and New Zealand throughout 2020. Must be one of five actors who had work that year.

"I am enjoying "His Dark Materials" very much, season 1" - Oh you are so lucky Godwit, as there is also a Season 2! I loved it.

I have just finished watching "Your Honour" starring Bryan Cranston. Anyone else seen it?

Re Westworld...I watched 2 seasons (or just under) of that, but I found it so confusing I've given up.

His Dark Materials season three started filming in May 21', but won't be finished and released before 2022, they say. It will be based on the final book of the trilogy, and 8 episodes. It will be the final season too.

I'd watch anything Cranston is in. You liked it, Rockstar?

I have to say I did Godwit. It also takes place in New Orleans...a location I find appealing for some reason. Well any story that takes place in the South!

All right, "Your Honor" is on my list! Thank you!

I watch NCIS New Orleans and also the excellent gentlemanly beast vampires "The Originals" is set there.

More info on "Your Honor"-- it is adapted from the Israeli TV series Kvodo and just renewed for a 2nd season August 2021.

Sum: A judge's son accidentally hits and kills the son of a mafia kingpin. (Mafia? In New Orleans?)

Can't wait to see it, Rockstar!

Watching "Your Honor". I like the latter episodes much better than the first few. It's a fascinating premise, where the notion of who is "good" and who isn't gets turned on its head.

But--for some (who eat yorkshire pudding, for instance) the show may be a tish overacted and predictable. I wonder if the show it is based on, out of Israel, has that issue. ?

Nicole Kidman and Huge Grant in Grant's unusual crime drama role.

HBO and Prime had a lover's spat today, apparently. HBO went to live with his brother for a while. Prime threw his clothes out the 2nd floor window. Whether they will make up is hard to say.

That's great to hear. I've been wondering about "Clickbait".

I'm watching "Big Little Lies" with Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman among others. For me it's another series a tish overacted, like "Your Honor" with Cranston. These are heavy weight actors so I can't explain the dramatic flair! But the plot, dialogue and characters are fascinating.

The Foundation trilogy by Isaac Asimov is now a TV series, possibly stretching to 80 episodes! Premiered on Apple TV+ 24 September...

Other new shows the BBC recommends:
Y: The Last Man (sci fi)
Scenes from a Marriage (HBO, a remake of a Swedish series)
Midnight Mass (horror)
American Rust (crime)
Money Heist (final series)

I've just finished watching the latest series of 'Silent Witness' - I was about a month behind so it should be available in the US by now. More dead bodies being unzipped under the keen eye of Emilia Fox aka Professor Alexander and her revolving band of sidekicks. But who done what and why?

And if that much crime isn't enough, a new series of 'Shetland' began yesterday. As usual I shall be glued to the box trying to spot the croft I stayed in when doing the research project for my degree. I'm ignoring the fact that was so long ago the archaeologists have probably been excavating the ruins for years. ;)

I've been enjoying "Line of Duty" and have binge watched the first five series (seasons) and have nearly finished the sixth. It's a UK series, and it's really hard to watch just one, as each episode leaves you wanting to know what happens next - or even what just happened.

"or even what just happened" Haha, that's a really good summary. :D

We're still waiting to see if there's going to be a seventh series - but don't hold your breath, the BBC has been around since the 1920s, it doesn't believe in rushing things.

I know that I'm *years* late on this but I finally got around to the Great British Bake Off. I watched the 2012 season and officially love it and every one of the contestants.
