Curious, what are you watching while the world spins around us?

What's your favorite thing about it? Does it help you get through?

By request. I've been asked to post some of the films I've watched lately on Netflix. (I've a 2 month for one deal going on at the moment), There's a bit of a common theme to many of them - mostly based on real events, many set in WW2.
'The 12th Man' (Norwegian), 'The Resistance Banker' (Dutch), 'The Photographer of Mauthausen' (Spanish), 'The Imitation Game' (British). I've also started watching 'Operation Finale' (American) this evening. I watched some biographical type films also, Steve Jobs, Colette, Red Joan. In addition I watched the remake of Rebecca which I did not think was as good as the original.

Apart from Netflix I also watch a lot of this TV channel. It has brilliant old black and white films. link https://talkingpicturestv.co.uk/

"GODLESS" is an American Western drama streaming television miniseries created by Scott Frank for Netflix.[1] The seven-episode series began production in Santa Fe, New Mexico in September 2016, and was released on Netflix globally on November 22, 2017.[2][3] The series received positive reviews,[4][5] and was named one of the year's 10 best by The Washington Post and Vanity Fair.[6][7]

I am currently watching and enjoying this. I'll give it 7.5/10 :-)

"Godless" --one of a gang of outlaws finds refuge from his former crew in a small town run mostly by women, who set up defenses when the criminals finds their missing brother.

I hope that's a fair description, Paul. It sounds like a good show, and thank you

WOW "The Undoing" on HBO. Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant.

You nailed it on "Godless".

I have never played Chess, nor do I know anything about it.
That does not take away one iota of the enjoyment I'm getting from watching "The Queen's Gambit". It's about a chess savant (starts when she is about 8-9), and goes from there,
It's wonderful, I never expected to even like it a little bit.
I LOVE IT.

Paul, and the fact she is "drop dead gorgeous" IMO, did nothing to decrease viewing pleasure! Lol

All right gentlemen. She's got killer chess skills, too.

I can recommend the astounding Helen Mirren in "The Roman Spring of Mrs Stone" by Tennessee Williams. When her husband died an aging actress has an existential (romantic?) crisis.

Helen Mirren again, "The Door". She plays a hardened, wise housekeeper in Hungary, loved by the "idiot" "fool" woman she works for. It's about the tremendous strength of the human spirit, and the fragile bonds of trust.

Paul, the focus and hope for this thread is on all pandemic "stay at home" viewing--whatever shows (fit to print) people are watching on any medium-- are welcome and shared here. As you know, since you've contributed a number of them.

Most of the really great shows I've seen since corvid arrived came from these suggestions. We're helping each other find quality entertainment, or avoid the awful. There's not much chat about it.

But if it suddenly bugs you, we can see what Flopsy says. Also, feel free to pop over to the TV chat and share anything from here. Like other shows featuring redheads, for instance.

Something FatherSteve has mentioned as a favorite is The Great British Baking Contest.

On a whim I watched an episode this week. It's great! I had in my mind it was like Hell's Kitchen and those "bake fast and get screamed at" shows. But, no, it's wonderful. Thanks.

It's mixed media, and so, like a quiz would be if was all jumbled up across categories, it goes in General. Anyway, if you think I'm going to copy, or make anyone else copy, nearly 600 posts from this board to two (or more) other boards, think again! :D

As for the Great British Bake Off, or whatever you call it over there, it's one of the best shows on tv. The most recent series has just finished airing over here and it's still the same as always - overbaked cake, custard that won't set, and something, or someone, collapsing in a heap. It also had a scandal when the judges decided that a Cornish pasty could contain and/or look like just any old pastry - oh Prue, how could you?!

Plus, if you think this is like any other show, especially the shows that are re-made over there, just wait until you see what they win! This year they even had to leave home, go into quarantine, and spend the whole summer in a 'bubble' - contestants, judges, tv crew, and all. You'd think that after all that they'd deserve a car, or a new kitchen, or... lol, nope, this is British tv.

Oh, and you might like to watch our version of Masterchef and/or, my favourite, 'Masterchef. the Professionals'. That has a Michelin-starred chef as a judge, contestants who aspire to become Michelin-starred chefs, and no screaming! Not even when the souffle droops and the deconstructed roast pork crackling is so undercooked it oinks its way off the plate. And wait until you see what they win. :D

I think I'll just have a frozen dinner and a box of Oreos, while watching myself in a mirror.

Oreos...the best!

Another epiphany for me, Paddington! A bear at a train station? Never appealed to me. But Paddington 2 was on today, so...
How adorable!! With a fine cast of silly humans.
